Is there a way to get the new releases page to show all new releases (even if just for my country), rather than just those the Spotify algorithm decides it wants to show me?

Hey @Photon123,

If you're looking for a full list with all the new releases appearing on Spotify, you may want to check out this page.

In case you have a particular feature in mind, which you think should be implemented in the app, you could also have a look in the Idea Exchange, to see if someone else has already made a similar suggestion, and if not post your own.

The Idea Exchange is a great way for us to see what our users are interested in and how many people like a certain idea. You can read more about it here.

Hope this info is useful. Give us a shout if you need help with anything else 🙂

What if we do not want to visit an external site, and that we just want the old feature that was working perfectly fine, embedded in Spotify home page ?

I mean, who get to make these decision without asking us our opinion or allowing us to not have to deal with AI suggestions ? It feel quite paternalist in the way that the interface is getting really boring to use, you have to scroll through tons of undesired or unwanted sections, and it getting harder to get to the music I want to listen to.

There a reason why we choose Spotify over GPM and Youtube... please stop trying to be worst than them and return our old interface with the proper freedom we had before ?

Hey there @arbours,

Thanks for the reply.

The Spotify teams are always working on improving the app and making it more user friendly.

As @Jeremy has mentioned, user feedback gets relayed to the developers who take it into account when working on future releases and fixes.

Hope this helps.

Hi Xenia

I wanted to follow up on your message (I realise it's taken a while!). As the comments and likes on this thread show, there is a lot of support for the idea that the algorithm should be used to recommend a curated list of albums in the same way it does for new tracks.

I have considered using the Idea Exchange but quite honestly it's a mess; it's full of half-baked suggestions with barely a like shared amongst them. I find it hard to believe that any developer is going to crawl through it for the next big idea...

I'm still puzzled by the lack of interest in this functionality by Spotify - the tech is surely already there and it doesn't prevent them from recommending their own manually "curated" lists of albums they've been paid to promote.

Hi there @DrBunker,

Thank you for your reply and feedback.

Our Ideas board really is the best place to make sure your feedback reaches the right teams.

We've recently been working on improving the Ideas board to avoid some of the issues you mentioned. But rest assured that Spotify is always looking to improve and will be happy to receive any feedback you might have on how to make the app better.

Let us know if we can help you with anything else.

Take care!

Hi Jeremy

Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't have much luck trawling through the ideas board to see if my idea had already been raised. As you're more familiar with it, would you be able to let me know if there is already a post I should "like" or if I need to raise a new one?

Hi again @DrBunker,

Thank you for getting back in touch with us.

There's an idea - [Discover] New Release Section for Followed Artists. You can head over to that idea and leave a +VOTE and Subscribe to the thread for any updates.

If you have any more specific idea we suggest that you create a new idea by clicking the link that @Xenia provided in the reply above.

Let us know if we can help you with anything else.

Cheers!

Thanks for that. The first problem there is that's talking about followed artists - I'm trying to understand why Spotify can provide us with a "new songs" section based on an algorithm that knows which music we listen to, but it cannot do the same for new albums by the same artists.

More importantly, if you scroll to the bottom of that Idea, you'll see that Spotify have responded to say "good idea but we think it's already covered by the release radar".

I'll add a new Idea with the points from this thread.

Thanks

Hey @DrBunker,

Thanks for the reply.

The moderator has linked to that idea since Release Radar already includes new singles and songs from new albums from your favorite artists.

It's good to specify that you'd like to see a separate recommendation of new albums specifically in your Idea Submission.

Cheers.

True, but that Idea was more specific - they wanted a list of new songs from their liked artists, not just all artists the the Spotify algorithm decides are similar to those artists. That doesn't seem to be an unreasonable request.

So just to be clear, there is currently no way of doing this and we'll have to ask for it to be added (taken from my previous post):

You also mention the release radar. I use this all of the time but if there's a section where the Spotify algorithm can tell me about new songs that fit the genres I listen to, I fail to see why can't there be a section for new albums too.

ha ha, isn't it quite pathetic. Over 6 months to be told 'no'!
The suggestions of scrolling through multiple playlists are well meaning but naive and simplistic.
I find it both sad, frustrating and annoying that Spotify have so little interest in giving users real control. But no, we must remain subservient to the algorithm.

Hi @DrBunker,

As far as I know, the best way in which you could find the newest releases is to select the 'Browse' tab on the left of the Spotify desktop app (as shown in screenshot). If I was eager to find some new music of whatever genre, I'd also search 'new releases' and look through some playlists made by Spotify users who are very good at finding great new releases. @Jpgchief is a good example of a Spotify user who makes playlists with great new releases.

Hope this helps!

...and this feature is now removed as well, together with the tag:new search (or any limiting search to find what you actually are searching for instead of an infinite scrolling list of trash and vaguely misspelled mishits.)

Are you dead set on obsoleting your product, or what is going on here??

Thanks.

I'm aware of the "new releases" page, my question was more about why it only shows a selection of new music.

I don't really want to have to go through a lot of different playlists or genre lists in the hope that, amonst all of the duplicates, I'll chance upon a new album that wasn't listed elsewhere.

I just don't understand the point of having a new releases section if it's essentially just a "some new albums you might like" section...

Hey @DrBunker.

Thanks for getting back to us 🙂

Every week, thousands of new singles, EPs and albums are released around the world. As a result, Spotify curates these into a selection of new releases which it considers to be noteworthy.

In addition to the New Releases section in the desktop app, there are a couple of other ways you can check what's new on Spotify:

  1. Release Radar is a playlist which is updated every Friday and features the newest music from the artists you follow to and listen to the most, so that you never miss a release from them. The more you listen on Spotify, the better this playlist gets at highlighting releases that are relevant to you.
  2. New Music Friday is a Spotify-curated playlist, also updated every Friday, with the newest releases from around the world. Several countries, such as Germany, the UK and Italy, have their own curated playlists with the new releases from that week, so this would be a good way to see what's released and being listened in your country.

Of course, there are many albums which aren't featured in these playlists, however Spotify does its best to show you what's new and noteworthy.

Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions 🙂

Thanks Peter

As I said in the OP, I'm not too worried about albums released around the world, I'd just like the new releases section to contain something other than the debut releases from 20 different rap/"R&B"/grime artists plus those from former members of One Direction.

You also mention the release radar. I use this all of the time but if there's a section where the Spotify algorithm can tell me about new songs that fit the genres I listen to, I fail to see why can't there be a section for new albums too.

That's all I'm looking for and I can be fairly confident that this would be a very popular feature.

Honestly, Release Radar kind of sucks. We really need a place where we can see EVERY new release by our followed artists in one place. The fact that we have to use other websites that aggregate from Spotify is a shame.

Thank you @A_Musicophile that was pretty cool.  And if you want @DrBunker let me give you this two thread thread Fresh Singles June (if you follow this one you're going to be updated daily with all the new music that I can find, once the month is over I create another thread with the name of the month but tha Playlist is the same) and 12 New Songs This Week (here you can find only the tracks that I love the most from the week).

Cheers!!!
