My Question or Issue
My laptop and desktop have been updated to the most recent Spotify app update. I tried following one of my friends and their listening activity is not showing up on the right column. My friend who was already following them is able to see their listening activity using the previous update (his Spotify desktop app has not been updated yet). This is not working for some of my other friends who have their listening activity turned on. Yes, I have logged out and back in, uninstalled, and reinstalled the app before coming to the community about this issue. Anybody experiencing this or know what's going on?
We're still unable to reproduce this on our end @tht1brownkid. Considering the comments that this is working on Windows 7, it sounds that something with the particular Windows 10 build that you're using is causing this issue.
If you're unable to access Safe Mode with Networking to test this out, the only other suggestion we can give is to see if disabling any firewalls, ad-blockers or VPNs (if you're using those) will have an effect.
Have you also maybe changed any Windows networking or privacy settings? For reference, here're the Windows specs we're running the tests on:
How do yours look?
I have attached a screenshot to this message.
Hey @tht1brownkid,
Thanks for keeping us in the loop.
Could you confirm that Spotify is added as an exception to all firewall, antivirus and ad-blocker services on that device?
If you could ask a friend or family member to log in to their account on your PC and see if the Friend Activity works there, that would allow us to test for account related issues.
Keep us posted. We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
Hello Mihail,
How would I be able to check to see if Spotify is an exception to all firewall etc?
Hey @tht1brownkid,
Thanks for getting back to us.
You can use this guide here as a reference for the built in Firewall on Windows devices or reach out to Microsoft here for further assistance.
If you have any additional Firewall or Security software installed, you should consult the distributor for instructions on how to add an exception.
Also, did you have the option to test the issue out with another account?
Keep us posted. We'll be here if you have aby questions.
Hello,
I have allowed Spotify past my firewalls but unfortunately, that is not the issue.
I also do not have access to another account to double-check. My brother is having a similar issue after updating his app.
Jeremy
Hey @tht1brownkid,
Thanks for keeping us in the loop 🙂
Could your brother log in to his account on your PC to check if there are any changes?
You can also send us a screenshot of what you're seeing while using your account. We'll look into this further.
Keep us in the loop! We'll be right here if you have any questions.
Hello,
I have attached screenshots of my spotify homepage from both my laptop and pc to this message.
Unfortunately, my brother has not seen any changes.
Jeremy
Hey there @tht1brownkid,
Thank you for your reply.
Since you're just missing some of your friends that you are following it could be an issue with the friend's account. They might be using private sessions or listening offline.
If you have the opportunity, can you reach out to one of your friend's that you know you're following nut don't show up and see if their listening offline or in private session?
We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
Take care!
Hello,
I have mentioned in my previous messages, I don't currently follow some of my friends. But they have their activity public and they are not on a private session. I have seen it in person.
Jeremy
Hey @tht1brownkid,
Thanks for the reply and the info.
Could you try connecting to another network, like a mobile hotspot? This will help us see if the issue is network related, as it's affecting both you and your brother.
Apart from that, could you un-follow and follow you brother's account and check if that makes any difference?
Cheers.
Hello,
As mentioned above, I do not have access to a mobile hotspot. My brother is on a separate network and is still having the same issue.
Hi @tht1brownkid,
Thanks for getting back to us.
You mentioned that you're not following all of your friends. Keep in mind that even if your friends share their listening activity and don't use a Private Session, if you're not following them it's expected that you won't be able to see their activity.
Would you mind trying to follow them again and let us know if you can see their listening activity?
Keep us posted.
Hello,
I am aware that I can not see my friend's listening activity if I am not following them. I have been following and unfollowing them to see if anything has changed but unfortunately, nothing has changed.
I did try and create a new account but when I followed the friends I can see on my initial account, it would not show their listening activity.
Thanks,
Jeremy
Hey @tht1brownkid,
Thanks for the reply.
Friend activity needs some time to sync up. You'd need to follow some people and then wait a while for them to actually stream something without a private session during that time frame.
Could you try the following:
We've checked with the teams backstage and it doesn't seem the friends you've listed have been very active, which combined with the low number of friends followed and not being online at the same time for a longer period could be the reason why the friend feed has not synced up.
Hi Alex,
I have tried all of those 'solutions' before I created this thread. I also have not listed which friends I am talking about so I am not sure who you are talking about. This has been a big hassle for a little thing so I am just going to forget about it. Kinda sucks it has come down to this but I am left with no choice really.
Thanks.
Jeremy
Hey @tht1brownkid,
Thanks for getting back to us.
Our customer support team has looked into the friends you've followed on your account, as those are the only ones that would appear in the friend feed.
It should get better with an increased number of friends you follow.
Alternatively, you can try to Connect to Facebook, add and follow some friends afterwards and then disconnect from Facebook if you don't want to stay connected.
We'll be right here if you have any questions.
