My Question or Issue
While playing an album, between track transitions, I will receive the message "Spotify can’t play this right now if you have the file on your computer you can import it" and Spotify will skip ahead TWO tracks. This happens on any album that I select, whether or not it is in my library.
However, if I manually choose the song that generated the error above or if I click the NEXT TRACK button, it will play, but then once again the error will appear on the next track transition and will again skip two tracks.
Note that this is not occurring on my custom playlists and only albums. I have tried adding an entire album to a playlist but the issue above still remains.
I have uninstalled, reinstalled, used the Spotify installer from the website, the Windows Store Spotify installer, changed Streaming Quality to Auto, updated my audio drivers, removed all Spotify references from %APPDATA%, none of these has resolved the issue.

Hello, this morning I tried the additional suggestions above from GavinK97 and Eni without any luck, however I decided to once again remove the Windows Store version and try again with the version from the Spotify website (Spotify for Windows 1.1.80.699.gc3dac750), the problem seems to now be resolved! I can't recall my previous app version, perhaps an update was released in the past week which resolved the issue.
Thanks all.
I am having the exact same problem on desktop app (win10) and ios. Runs fine on web player. Here's a screen capture of the issue.
EDIT 3/1: just got to my Linux machine and albums play through fine on the snap app there, still crashes/doesn't work on my iphone app and win10 desktop app.
EDIT 3/1: albums now play correctly on my iphone. Same bug is still occurring on desktop app win10.
EDIT 3/2: everything is back to normal on win10 as well now, thanks to any spotify people who worked on this.
I am also having this same issue both on ios and the desktop app. I tried restarting, logging in and out, and entirely reinstalling the apps on both platforms and it hasn't fixed this issue. I noticed it started happening this morning
I have the same problem. My Desktop App for Mac is skipping two tracks or crashing at the end of the song (on songs transition - I have no crossfade enabled). I've made clean reinstall few times with removing all caches and local files and it doesn't work. It happens only between tracks when I'm playing the album in original order. The shuffle mode seems to work fine but I'd like to play in normal order. It started to happen this morning.
Hi, I have the same problem since this morning (01/03/2022) at around 9 am (UK Time). The Spotify app crashes after 5-10 minutes (Windows) and within the 5-10 minutes skips songs until it crashes with the message you mention ("Spotify can’t play this right now if you have the file on your computer you can import it." ). Or crashes after one song. I have tried in 2 different computers (connected to different networks). The iPhone App seems to be working fine.
I have uninstalled and installed the app 4 times, cleared stored data, tried different option on the preferences and nothing.
The last time I have tried installing the app from fresh, after downloading it from Spotify website (Windows version) and clicking to complete install, it crashes with the message "Spotify could not be started. Error code 17."
Hey folks,
Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.
Great troubleshooting so far, we can add a few more steps to make sure we've covered all bases.
Something else you can try is clearing your hosts file with the steps here.
If the issue persists or there aren't any rows to clear, could you let us know the app version you're currently running, and if that started happening after a specific event, such as an update?
We'll be on the lookout.
Yep I had this exact same issue and made a post about it the other day. It skipped two tracks as well but would play the track if you clicked on it. This was happening on albums I was streaming from Spotify so the cause couldn't be from local files. Clearing the cache and completely uninstalling the program didn't help. For some weird reason, completely logging out of Spotify and resetting my password seems to have resolved the issue (at least for now) on desktop. I normally log in through Facebook but that was giving me issues so I used my Spotify username. Hopefully this helps.
Hey @GavinK97,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community.
We appreciate the time you took following the troubleshooting steps and sharing the process that works for you. We're glad that everything appears to be working fine at your side and hopefully other users may benefit from it.
We'll be on the lookout for the other responses too.
Greetings!
