My Question or Issue

I'm desperate for the return of the "Artist" column, separate from the song title. Not only is the artist very difficult to read, displaced almost half the size of the bolded song title, for many of us playlist builders the artist is WAY MORE IMPORTANT than the song or album title. Why make things harder to read and sort?

Please return the artist column, or at least give us the opportunity to customize the display settings within a playlist or album.

And put back the search bar, while you're at it. Who gets rid of a search bar?

Hey @illogicalhawk

Good news!

There is now a new Compact Mode for track lists (playlists and album pages) in the desktop app and Web Player

The drop down menu now has "Sort by" and "View as" options. To turn on compact mode, open up the drop down menu at the top right of a playlist or album page and click on "Compact" under "View as".

On Playlist pages, it removes the album art, and breaks out "Title" and "Artist" into their own separate columns again. This view is similar to before the redesign that added album art into playlists a few years ago.

On Album pages, it moves the artist and featured artists from below each track title, to a new "Artist" column to the right of the "Title" column.

When you turn on Compact Mode, it will be remembered and stay on when you are viewing both playlists and album pages. You can switch back to the regular "List" view at any time.

The new Compact Mode for track lists is rolling out in the desktop app and Web Player right now so you should be seeing it soon. This has been a highly requested feature since the redesign came out a few years ago.

Hi there @illogicalhawk,

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

We're sorry to hear that your experience with the New Desktop app isn't as expected. We encourage you to share your comments in this thread, which is constantly being monitored by the right teams in order to collect all your feedback, as it helps us improve the app.

Regarding the search bar, you can find it by clicking on Search on the left panel of the app, just below Home.

Once again, thanks for your feedback - we appreciate it.

If you need a hand with anything else, we're always a post away.

Cheers!

This would be great news, but unfortunately it would mean that I'd have to install newest version of Spotify for it to work, and that's not going to happen. I had to revert to older client because of the repulsive decision to move album art to the right, thus taking off valuable space from the palylist. I know it can be minimized, but I just want it where it has always been, so I have to use older client. Another reason to use older version is the horrible smart shuffle feature, so I'm unfortunately just out of luck getting the artist column back, since Spotify has blocked off signing to old versions which had the artist column 😞
