Saying I'm Offline Constantly

Saying I'm Offline Constantly

I use a free plan, mainly because I listen to Spotify casually. I used to use it a while ago on my Samsung tablet, and I never had trouble with it.

I downloaded it on my Windows 10 computer a couple of weeks ago. It was working fine for a while.

Then, randomly, it began to tell me that I was not connected. I went on help community and tried every suggestion they had, but none worked. I uninstalled. I logged out. I made sure offline mode wasn't on. Nothing worked.

Please help. Webplayer isn't working properly either. Spotify is falling apart on me!

Hey @ifn5jtdso9n9ue9

I'd suggest checking out your hosts file, especially when both the desktop client and the web player don't work properly. It's easy, just follow this:

1. open Notepad as an administrator (right-click - Open as Administrator)
2. go to File - Open and navigate to

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

3. Choose "All Files" instead of "Text Documents" next to the File Name box. You'll see a handful of files. Pick hosts and click on Open.
4. The file is opened. You will see a block of text with # in front of each line and might see entries like

0.0.0.0 website.com
127.0.0.1 website2.com

Check for any entries with spotify or fastly in the address. Examples may look like:

0.0.0.0 weblb-wg.gslb.spotify.com
0.0.0.0 prod.b.ssl.us-eu.fastlylb.net

(and any variations inbetween)
5. If you do find any, you can delete the line. You can also add a # in front of the line, that's 'commenting out'.
6. Save your changes. Restart Spotify.

You can also try removing all lines to see what happens.

Let me know how it goes 🙂

Still not working!

Did everything you suggested. There were no Spotify or "fastly" files, so I deleted everything. Still, it did not work. Help!

Could you try logging in using another account to see if the issue persists?

You can also try another network, if possible (a mobile hotspot or something).

Also, what's happening with the web player?

I also recommend making sure that your antivirus app or a firewall is not causing this issue. You can try disabling them at first. If that cures the issue, then there should be a way to whitelist Spotify in these apps.
