Spotify Connect not working in Desktop app

Currently I can listen to Spotify on my iPhone, and I can cast it to my Google Home mini, and even can play it through connect on the Web player. However, It will not show up on the desktop app (I've tried both the Windows store app and the downloadable exe, both don't work). I am able to listen to music on the desktop app, but it will be completely separate from the other devices. I've tried logging out of all devices, restarting my computer, and switching all devices to offline and back online.

It's strange indeed!

 

Can you access the router's settings (homepage)? You should see a sticker on it leading you to it's address (usually similar to 192.168.1.1 or something), username and default password should be in the same spot.

 

You can try a different network too (mobile hotspot or whatever).

Hey @Jeebs

 

This is odd!

 

I suggest trying out the following:

1. restart router (unplug for a few minutes, replug);

2. make sure Spotify is not blocked by your antivirus and firewall

 

Has it ever worked on the desktop app?

I will try to restart the router when I get a chance that people aren't using it.

 

I don't believe Spotify would be blocked by firewall, would I check that on my PC settings or in the router settings?

 

It used to work on the desktop app, but I just moved home from college to a different Wi-Fi network which might have caused issues.

In this case it might be a network issue indeed.

You can try checking the router's firewall (disable for a min to check if Spotify works).

Also, make sure uPNP is enabled. If it's enabled, disable and re-enable.

A simple restart of the router could solve this issue as well. :)

Just restarted the router, still nothing. Disabled the firewall for my device and nothing. I'm not sure what else this could be!

 

It's strange that it works on the Web app but not the desktop one.

I was able to plug my phone in and run it's hotspot through usb, and it worked! And now that I've unplugged that and turned it off, it's still working. I guess for some reason that fixed it.

Hey everyone @Spotify. Could you please stop tryoing so hard to marke issues as solved when nothing has been done it would be great. The problem is still the same for years now. 

 

When using desktop app it impossible to see a Google Home Device. The only work around is either to cast from web or to cast from iOS device or Android. 

When the account is connected from either web or mobile then Google Home Device starts acting as a client and is seen by the desktop app. 

 

I've made about three times the complete round of threads you suggest a fix and I always end up back to square one.

Could you please deal with this at any point ?

Same here. Indeed opening it on my Android phone made the windows app connect just now.
