My Question or Issue:

Spotify playlists wouldn't update on my computer so I deleted spotify and I reinstalled it. Once I logged in all my playlists, and everything is empty saying, "This playlist is currently empty. Find more of the music you love among our New Releases". The weird thing is that I can listen to all my songs and playlists on my IPhone6s (where I usually put new songs in my playlists). I already did the offline thing where you turn it off on your phone, but I don't know how to set it offline on the computer. Hope this is enough info to fix it.

fyi: i already restarted, logged out and back in, and reinstalled spotify from the official website.

Hi @pa0lo0, thanks for writing!

I'm sorry about that. Please try the following steps and let me know if it helps:

  • Log out > Restart desktop > Log back in
  • Reinstall app from Windows Store

After that, remove all lines from their hosts file that are blocking Spotify:

  1. Open Notepad as an administrator (right-click - Open as Administrator)
  2. Go to File - Open and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
  3. Choose "All Files" instead of "Text Documents" next to the File Name box. You'll see a handful of files. Pick hosts and click on Open
  4. When the file is open, you will see a block of text with # in front of each line and might see entries like 0.0.0.0 website.com127.0.0.1 website2.com
  5. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address. Examples may look like: 0.0.0.0 weblb-wg.gslb.spotify.com0.0.0.0
  6. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them.
  7. Save your changes and restart Spotify

No sorry to say this but it still hasn't worked yet. I have a MacBook Air 13" and it is running MacOS 13 High Sierra if this will help.

Hi @Its_Gam3_0n,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Can you let us know what troubleshooting you've gone through so far?

It's always good to run a clean reinstall, following the steps in this Article. Also check whether you can play music normally through the Web player and other devices like your phone.

Ive reinstalled 2 times and I've gone on application support and deleted the Spotify folder and reinstalled it again but still nothing.

Hi @Its_Gam3_0n,

Thanks for the reply.

Can you let us know if you can stream music through the Web player?

We need to go through all these troubleshooting steps in order to narrow down what may be causing the issue on your end.

Cheers.

no

Hi there @

Thanks for the info.

If the Web player is not working as well, the issue is most likely related to the Host files on your system. Follow these steps to clear any entries that contain Spotify:

  1. Open Finder and, in Finder’s menu bar, select Go > Go to Folder. In the box, type the following location: /private/etc/hosts and press return.
  2. A new Finder window will open and your Mac’s hosts file will be selected. Click and drag it out of the Finder window and drop it on your desktop.
  3. To open it, simply double-click and it will display the file’s contents in TextEdit .
  4. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address.
  5. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them
  6. Save your changes and restart Spotify.

Keep us posted.
