My Question or Issue

My Spotify app has an extreme delay to media controls. Playing a song on Spotify takes excruciatingly long, and this happens in bursts it seems.

I click play on a song, and there is a delayed response of around 5 to 10 seconds. If I end up spamming any of the media buttons; play buttons, shuffle, or volume, it will do nothing for the first 15 or 20 seconds and then all of my actions happen simultaneously. E.g clicking the skip button 10 times, nothing happens for first 15 seconds, then all 10 skips happen at once.

This issue happens to all of my media controls. I have tried a clean install, clearing cache, and clearing my app data. I have gigabit network connection, and I have a 16 core 32GB ram machine, with Spotify taking up nowhere near max capacity in task manager.

My question is, why are basic media controls, even volume, behaving slowly? This action should be happening on my local machine solely, but Spotify for some reason wants to communicate to their servers that I'm changing my volume in app, in a private session, to their servers, even with no web player open. The delay is leading me to believe that there's a delay in the time it takes for my volume adjustment to go to their servers, then back to me. The same happens for all other media controls, which would make sense for playing another song, but not volume for christs sake.

Like I said, I have a gigabit network connection, so I'm not sure if that's the issue. What are the recommended solutions to fixing this?

Hi there @yeye123,

Thanks for reaching out.

We understand that this can be very frustrating, so we'll gladly help you get to the bottom of this and find a solution.

If you haven't tried the following steps, please do so and see if it helps:

  • Disable hardware acceleration
  • Disable any VPNs you might be using

If the issue persists, could you please provide us the following so we can investigate further:

  • Is this on all devices or only on Desktop? What about the webplayer?
  • When did this start happening?
  • The exact Spotify Versions you use.

Let us know how it goes.

I am having the same problem. The problem should be fixed if you go to offline mode or play through the web player. I just hope this problem gets fixed soon.

"This issue happens to all of my media controls" inside windows or spotify?

Are your audio drivers up to date. Did you change any settings lately?

How do you see the corelation between network communication and sound control? I mean, if your outdated audio drivers hang your system when changing volume, it might aswell explain the hogging of internet traffic in any network capturing software at the same moment, which leads you to your explanation.

I've also been having this same exact issue but only on my laptop.
