My Question or Issue
When I try to play a song I get the following error message "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it"
I have tried all the fixes I have seen:
Reinstalling app.
Using version from Microsoft store.
Disabled hardware acceleration.
Disabled crossfading.
Changed speaker options.
Deleted local files.
I've had this issue before and it was fixed by using the version from the Microsoft store but this isn't working now.
Spotify works on my phone and my laptop, web player also works only the desktop app doesn't work.

Hi Everyone I had this problem, and did not find the solution here, but did figure it out: DOH! I was using my laptop which can play 'local files' but had selected the Spotify device to play music to be my Alexa Spotify skill. Playing from my laptop connected to Alexa via Bluetooth would work fine, but obviously the Alexa Skill did not have its own access to files on my laptop. I was just being rather dim.
uninstall from microsoft store and download straight from spotifys website, microsoft store is genuinely goin down the shitter and the amount of people having this problem is a glaring indictment. also saw some mac bois idk if its the same w the apple store but try (if u can) to just download it straight from the website
Same thing happening to me. Audio on computer works fine on website but Spotify will play the sounds with no sounds despite being told to route music to the computer and turning bluetooth off to make sure it is not connected to any headphones. Tried clearing cache and that did not help. Weird part is that the screen will say "Can't play current song" but I can see the track moving when I click play so it is almost as it detects there is no sound coming out of the speaker despite playing the track just fine. very frustrating. It has been like this for 3 days now.
How did you figure out how to play Sutton songs that you want even though Spotify wouldn't allow you
None of the options in the top answers/accepted solutions worked for me. I also tried installing all pending Windows updates and Lenovo updates (including bios update). Finally I uninstalled the driver for my sound controller in Device Manager (Realtek High Definition Audio in my case), restarted, and Windows reinstalled the driver automatically. After that Spotify is playing audio without the error. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th Gen and Windows 10 Pro.
