My Question or Issue
When I try to play a song I get the following error message "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it"
I have tried all the fixes I have seen:
Reinstalling app.
Using version from Microsoft store.
Disabled hardware acceleration.
Disabled crossfading.
Changed speaker options.
Deleted local files.
I've had this issue before and it was fixed by using the version from the Microsoft store but this isn't working now.
Spotify works on my phone and my laptop, web player also works only the desktop app doesn't work.
Solved! Go to Solution.
I think I have found a temporary resolution to this issue. Turn off "Smart Shuffle" then play the songs you cant play. Then turn "Smart Shuffle" back on and the songs should be playable.
If you have shuffle turned off, cycle through the shuffle options then play your song that was unplayable. The app seems to lag or freeze for a second then recover after this action when the issue is present.
For me, I found going into your audio settings, clicking on your output device, and disabling any "effects" worked.
If you're using Spotify in your browser, try opening it in a "Private Browsing" tab instead. That solved this issue for me....good luck.
i also had the same issue. but when i logged out and logged back in, the problem was resolved. im sure this wont work for everybody, but still worth a shot right?
Try disabling hardware acceleration:
Click on the three dots (top-left) -> Help -> Troubleshooting -> Disable Hardware Acceleration and restart
please... fix that... I pay for 4 years now, and it's been here since the beginning, I reproduce once a day on my desktop PC, what can be so difficult to fix... I'll help investigate if you want, but that's not acceptable from an audio stream website to not be able to play audio

My Question or Issue
Another time my app doesn't work correctly... When i try to play something the app show the error "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it."
I try the cache clear, the close and re-open, unistall and reinstall (no file found in directory to delete), disable acceleration, and all you can find in forums / google.
My app work correctly on my iPhone, but not on my PC.
Any help ? (:

On windows desktop app free plan, I can't listen to anything without getting the message above. I repaired, reset, uninstalled, checked internet connection, and checked output device, nothing is working. Also tried to clear my cache again and it didn't work. It doesn't have to do with my account because the web player works, but I want to figure out this issue with the app. If anyone has same issue or message, let me know what you sis to resolve it.
Hi @elena, i got the same problem but i cant click on the link there "
Remove host files. Head here to find out how." -> it tells me access denied.

My Question or Issue
My Spotify hasn't worked on my computer for a week now.
I get an error message which reads: "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have this file on your computer, you can import it to Spotify."
I have deleted and re-installed the desktop app three times and I have followed through the instructions in all the FAQ guides, but the problem persists. I have deleted all the cache multiple times, reloaded the app and have made sure to delete all the files on my computer when re-installing. I have gone through my sound settings for apps on my PC, nothing worked.
I managed to fix this by toggling on Local Files from the Setting and restarting the computer.

My Question or Issue
While listening to music, usually around halfway through the song, the error "Spotify can't play this right now" will show as it skips to the next song.
I'm getting this error as well in the desktop client (Windows), but Spotify wont play anything. I don't even get the first minute. I can play (the entire song and no issues moving to the next song) via the web browser (Brave and Chrome) and via my Android phone. I've tried the troubleshooting steps and just re-downloaded the current desktop app and am currently by-passing the firewall.
