Spotify cant play this right now

My Question or Issue

Spotify outright refuses to play anything using the Windows 10 app. I get the standard message that "Spotify can't play this file right now"

I can confirm Spotify works via the Web App. Spotify also works using a Virtual Machine installed on my PC. However when it comes to native Windows app it fails. Spotify has previously worked on my PC and I have made no hardware or software changes to influence this.

I have tried the standard "Clean Installs", logging out and back in, restarting PC/Router, Hardware acceleration, Streaming quality. Most things I have found on the web hasn't worked.

Any ideas?

Is there something blocking Spotify, a firewall or an antivirus?

Could you try the steps in this article?

Since you mentioned the Windows 10 app, have you tried using the non Windows Store version to see if the same thing happens with it too? You can download it here.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I managed to resolve this. My solution was to upgrade to Windows 11… no idea why!
