My Question or Issue

My Spotify desktop app keeps muting itself whenever another sound on the computer plays, eg when a video or sound plays on chrome or when I am gaming. The song is still being played just no music is heard but it will come back after I close the window which is playing the sound.  I've tried re-installing the app from both Spotify and the Windows store and restarting my computer but nothing so far. The web browser works perfectly fine and doesn't mute itself at all

Hey @prishumtu

There is a Windows setting that could do that, it's called Communications setting and if enabled, it will eithe rmute or turn down the volume of the music-playing apps when something like a meeting happens.

Try disabling that to see if that will help:

1. Find the speaker icon on Taskbar. Right-click on it and select Sounds.
2. In the opened window go to Communications and set Windows to do nothing.

Let me know how you get on! 🙂

Hello, after changing the communications setting spotify still mutes itself when I join a voice channel on discord. I am NOT trying to play music for other people or share my audio/music in any way. I am trying to continue listening to music while on the voice channel. Is there a way to make spotify unaware of when I am joining voice channels? Using the spotify desktop client and discord desktop client.

Hey @hannonsr,

Thanks for reaching out.

Please keep in mind that there can only be one audio playing from Discord at a time. Starting a voice chat or entering a voice channel will pause the music. If this is a feature you'd like changed, we'd recommend you take a look in our Idea Exchange and see if someone has already submitted an idea for this feature to be added  and if not post your own.

Hope you find this useful. Keep us posted if you have any questions.

Hello, thanks for the reply!
There's a chance we missed each other by a small bit. It should not be a
case of trying to get two audio streams out of discord. My entirely
separate desktop application of spotify stops piping out music my
headphones if I enter a discord voice channel in my entirely separate
discord desktop application. I made sure my accounts are not synced and
the Microsoft communications setting was turned off. Somehow spotify is
recognizing my discord activity, and although is trying to help, is not
doing what I want.
I'll check out the links provided and request the change if it's not
already an open request.
Thanks again for your help.
