Spotify desktop slow after after a few minutes of heavy use

Spotify desktop slow after after a few minutes of heavy use

So I've had this problem for a while (at least 2 years), and it doesn't seem to get fixed. I couldn't find this specific slowing problem on any other topic.

So my spotify gets very slow after about 10 minutes of heavy use. I'm searching new music for my playlist (about 1000 numbers), and deleting some old numbers. As I am doing this, spotify gets very slow and unresponsive, every UI element of the app reacts slow en everything takes a lot of time to load (like 5 seconds), including songs. The app still plays songs perfectly fine.

I restart my PC daily. After I restart just the spotify application, it seems to be fast again for a short amount of time.

Normal use (just playing songs, not searching etc) doesn't seem to slow the application.

My Question or Issue

Did anyone find a good fix for this? Or is this a known issue?

Thanks!

I've had this problem for like 3 and half or 4 years now, for however long I've had Spotify for. I've used several types of laptops, three lower end ones in the brands of HP, Asus, and Dell; and currently a much better gaming-ready Dell laptop. Regardless of laptop efficiency, whether its installed RAM or any other spec, it's been consistently the same issue no matter what. Just as you described, it's Spotify taking eternity to load only after a couple minutes of quick use. For me it doesn't even have to be heavy usage neither, for instance I could just be booting up Spotify, look up and album, add song(s) from it to a playlist, and then go to look up another playlist and then the screen is just blank for a solid 5 minutes before it begins loading the page. If I'm playing music, by the time the song ends I'm waiting within that 5 minutes for the next song to play. There is basically no use for Spotify at that point so I find it way better to use it on mobile, but that's inconvenient for someone like me who's trying to use Spotify on occasion to DJ or play in a household. I don't want people using my phone to play music and I don't want my phone to always be the thing playing music, sometimes I want to use it like a phone, you know, like a normal person would. This is an issue with SPOTIFY that THEY are not fixing. It's been this long now and I don't think it's going to change.

Hey @stijnvankampen and @MissingElements,

Thanks for searching for the answer you need here.

Let us know if this issue persists once you've performed a clean reinstall on the affected device. We recommend this step since it'll get you the latest app version with all necessary updates and remove any corrupted files from previous installations.

It's also a good idea to check if toggling Hardware acceleration on/off makes a difference on laptop and desktop devices. You can find this option under Setting>Compatibility. Make sure to restart the app after making a change.

Hope you find this useful. Let us know how you get on.
