I had no issues with the desktop app for years, then suddenly about a month or so ago the issue started. When I launch Spotify, it lags the entire computer for several seconds, and the same thing can happen when tabbing back into the app after a while.
Eventually I noticed it only happened on the Home screen view - if i clicked fast into a playlist view during the app startup, it stuttered for a shorter moment, and the stutter occurs every time if I click into the Home screen on my own. The same thing happens with the web browser version.
I tried the troubleshooting tips and nothing helped. My computer is up to date, I did a clean reinstall of Spotify, and the system installation itself is pretty new too (and the Spotify issue didn't appear until some time later). Other threads on this topic seem to go back even to 2017 which is pretty discouraging. What do I do with this. There's not even a way to disable the Home screen itself, so every time I start Spotify I have to click fast into a random playlist.

I'm also dealing with this issue from like 2 weeks ago i believe, Just started randomly, I just noticed that if i unplug my 2nd monitor the lag reduces a bit but it's still there. I tried installing the App from both the windows store and the spotify website but the problem persists.
I also tried installing the app in a virtual machine and it works fine on there, it's a clean windows 11 pro VM.
I don't know what else to try to get it working with no lag on my actual PC...
Same issue here for multiple weeks.
Nothing worked, the app is just broken
Here is the solution guys, from Deviante DV8, now for me lagging and stuttering gone
"Right click the speaker on your hotbar and click Sounds. From the playback section select your output device and go on properties. In the enhancements tab select disable all enhancements and in the advanced tab make sure "Allow application to take exclusive control of this device" is set to off."
But if you disable this, Razer 7.1 Surround Sound stops working, which is obviously very bad since the sound quality becomes terrible without it. 😔
Sometime recently similar starting happening for me.
Windows 11
AMD 5900x/6900XT setup which is hooked up to a TV which is in turn hooked up to a soundbar/surround setup.
Music skips and stutters an insane amount any time that I actually interact with the spotify app. The app or the computer isn't lagging at all though. If I have the app running and the music running only in the background, I can be playing whatever, typing out this message, whatever it may be and it isn't an issue as long as the spotify app is minimized.
Turning off audio enhancements seems to help somewhat but I'd rather not. Hardware acceleration on or off doesn't make a difference.
Interestingly, and this is making me think it's possibly a different issue although it still sounds very similar, it only happens for me (and it's throughout anywhere in the spotify app, not only the home page) if spotify is fullscreen, in a minimized window it doesn't happen (wut)
it's been broken for months now, please fix.
The UI is extremely slow even when selecting songs from playlists.

Same issue here. The app has a very low framerate.
Hey folks!
Happy to share this issue should now be resolved 🙂
If you're still experiencing it, go over the steps for a complete clean reinstall of the app & make sure your app stays up to date if you haven't received the latest update yet.
Cheers!
I have the same problem. I've also seen users with non-Store versions reporting visual bugs.
You can try removing the ridiculous effects on the interface. We don't look at your interface while listening to music and say what a beautiful view.
I have the same problem even on the last version.
So i have installed old version of spotify and its all good 0 lags.
Spotify for Windows (32 bit)

If you need canvas consider updating to newer version, that version doesnt has canvas.
I fixed it by installing the Windows 10 (32-bit) version from the official Spotify website. No lag aymore.
I have the same problem on two different powerful machines. The problem is either with the app or with the web player with any Chromium based browser (Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave, Vivaldi). But using the web player in Firefox, or the Windows 10 (32-bit) version from the official Spotify website, the lag disappears.
Hey folks,
Thanks for all your replies here and for all the info shared.
We really appreciate the time you take to report this. These details help us a lot. We can confirm the right team is aware of the inconvenience and is currently looking into this. We expect this will be fixed soon, but we don't have further information about when it is going to be sorted out.
We'd suggest you make sure you're running the latest version of the app, so you won't miss any developments. You can check for possible new version updates in the three-dot menu that you can find on the top left of your screen in the desktop app. There, select Help> About Spotify. If there’s a new version available, you’ll see a button “restart to install”.
You can also give a try to other troubleshooting steps suggested in this thread, to see how it goes. Remember to always download the app from our official website or the Microsoft store. Always avoid running unauthorized older versions of the app.
We'll be here if anything else comes up.
