My Question or Issue

Whenever i play music while im playing Roblox, my Refresh Rate suddenly just goes down. I checked already and its not my FPS, it is what i first suspected but ive monitored it and my FPS stays the same, I think it gets cut down to around 60hz. I've tested it on other games or programs and it doesnt do it ANYWHERE else, (atleast from what i've seen.), Desktop and non-Roblox games dont lag. I've turned off Hardware Acceleration, Checked NVIDIA Settings (Might not have fully), Cleared my Cache. I Do use Lossless audio format, i think its started til then but i doubt thats why. I have my downloaded songs on my SSD and im listening through a dedicated Audio Interface. I'm not sure what i should do.

Hey there @savien0,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

In this case, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the desktop app as a first step to cover some initial troubleshooting. By doing that, the app can be up-to-date and you can make sure the stored cache is not leading to this behavior.

Note: Be aware that reinstalling the app will remove all your downloaded content.

If issues persist, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running.
  • Does this happen if you change the audio quality?
  • Does this happen when using the web player?

Keep us in the loop!

I've followed the clean reinstallation guide and since then this has changed:

It cuts my refresh rate if im Downloading music, not just when its only playing music.

For the web player it only lags/cuts the refresh rate when i play music.

I switched to High audio quality but that didnt change it.

I'm using Lossless Audio + an Audio Interface if that has anything to do with it.

Also when it does cut the refresh rate its almost instant, unlike when you switch it manually the display has to kinda sync into it for a couple seconds. My FPS stays the same so it cant be the FPS that gets changed since i see a considerable drop in "smoothness" which is probably just the refresh rate.

Hey @savien0,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

Something that you can try in this type of case is, if you installed the app from the official website, we'd recommend installing the version available in the Microsoft store (or vice versa) to see if it has the same behavior.

Also, since you're using a dedicated audio interface, we'd recommend checking if playing your music without it has the same behavior with your refresh rate or not.

Lastly, we'd recommend tuning the Offline mode on and playing your downloaded music to avoid the app from streaming the content while you play.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Before i reinstalled it was already from the Microsoft Store, when i did reinstall it was from the official spotify Website with the installer. Same Behaviour.

I also unplugged my audio interface and used a different audio output source, it was also the same.

Lastly like you said i turned on offfline mode and streamed my music through my downloads but it was also the same.

Hey @savien0,

Thanks for getting back to us.

If possible, try logging in to your account using a different Windows user or another PC to see if the issue persists.

Also, check for any third-party software (like screen recorders, overlays, or performance boosters) that might be interfering with the refresh rate. Make sure to close all unnecessary background applications, especially any that interact with audio or video, and temporarily disable any third-party antivirus or security software to see how that goes.

Keep us posted.
