Spotify not playing ANY songs, UI glitches

BUT BE CAREFUL, there were 2 'hosts' files on my PC, i only looked at one which was the  wrong one, and therefore had no spotify entries. i did not see the second hosts file untill later, and sure enough the spotify entry was in that one.

My Question or Issue

Spotify will not play any song, even after restart and reinstall.

My internet connection is fine.

When attempting to play a song this happens:

I have attempted to edit the hosts file under C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc but there were no spotify related items

Aditionaly, all my playlists are showing up as empty.

When trying to view play history, a bunch of blank entries appear:

Hey there @JoeSpeers !

The issue you are experiencing with the desktop app is a known one and Spotify is investigating the issue. There is an open issue about this here where you can track it and vote for it so it catches more attention. There is a workaround described there which seems to be fixing the issue for most of the users. I hope this will get fixed on Spotify's end soon.
