My Question or Issue

Spotify keeps restarting, skipping and playing random songs. I've done the following:

  • signed out on all devices
  • reinstalled

My internet is perfectly fine and I don't really know what else to try.

I found this older thread but no solutions were offered: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Windows/Keeps-restarting-tracks-skips-tracks-playing-random.... Please help.

Hey @obscur

That's an odd issue for sure.
I'd begin from making extra sure that your account is safe, so I recommend
1. Resetting your password on both Spotify and the email account you made your Spotify account with.
2. Log out of all devices
3. Go to spotify.com/account/apps and revoke access to anything you do not recognise or need.

Once this has been done, you can try and see if the issue continues happening. 🙂

I have the same issue as described above, just on my mobile:

I've done the following:

  • signed out on all devices
  • reinstalled app
  • changed password
  • turned off gapless playback
  • turned off automix and autoplay
  • revoked access to anything you do not recognise or need

Nothing helped. The skipping seems to happen randomly - some songs play fine, other are skipped (on the same playlist!)

I only have this issue when I have an AUX cable connected to my phone. I tried with different cables - same behaviour

I have just started having this issue. I'm using the web player for windows, but i tried on the iphone app and its doing the same thing there. It started with sound cutting out when some songs got to 12 seconds (this started happening about 2/3 weeks ago) and now it just skips songs randomly and rearranges my queued songs.

Its really odd.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the posts and the info you've submitted.

This issue sounds very odd indeed, especially because it's happening on multiple devices.

Can you try logging in with a different account, to check if this is account related? You can ask a friend to log in with theirs on one of your devices, or create a free account for test purposes.

@janedoe83 can you let us know if the same is happening when you connect to a speaker via Bluetooth or is is only when you have the AUX plugged in?

Looking forward to your replies.

My Question or Issue

My issue is this: https://youtu.be/CIIEOg0iOOA

Spotify on windows randomly starts playing, skips around, plays for a few seconds sometimes longer and just keeps doing this - in specifically the windows app. I dont have Google play, i don't have windows media streaming bladibla activated. It doesnt do this in the browser player - just the desktop application.

This is clearly associated with how media keys is implemented in Spotify and the fact its using a browser under the hood, with a feature flag in chrome that many people normally have to turn off due to bugs in Windows - makes the app unusable for periods of time.

If you don't allow the use of settings flags and adjusting the underlying browser for your electron app - switch framework, Tauri or make a proper desktop app using QT.. Geez.. wankers..

Solution so far; turn off media keys feature flags in  Chrome - make spotify webapp a Chrome app... Stop using the desktop app all together.

I feel extremely stupid. I had the same issue, tried disconnecting every device that might influence Media Keys and disconnecting every service via spotify.com/account/apps, did a Repair/Reset on Windows and cleared cache and restarted a bunch of times. You want to know what the issue was? My headset was laying on its side on its media buttons, I am stupid
