My Question or Issue
Exactly one update ago, something about the search broke. No matter what I search, the top result is always a playlist or an album or an artist. Every single time without fail, no matter what I search, I never get a song as the top result.
I have to assume this is an unintended change because there is no good reason for the top result to be an album/artist/playlist when there is an exact match for a song in the search.
There are a couple of other threads complaining about the same issue but the replies in both threads have been that it's probably because that was the best match for what was typed in the search. Well, I am here to tell you that that is not the case. Even if I search a song with its exact title, the top result might be the album that contains the song or the artist whose song it is (and no, the artist/album and the song don't share the same name).
Please see the screenshot attached below. The term searched is "on track" and the top result is the artist (Tame Impala) rather than the song even though the search is an exact match for the title of the song.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Turns out it may very well have been an unintended change after all! The newest update (1.1.**bleep**.612) has reverted this change and the search now includes songs like it's supposed to!
Hey there! Glad you asked.
It seems like this is not a bug or issues rather just the way it works for now. The songs appearing together on one side and the Artist/Playlist/Album on the other side. Check if there is an open idea similiar to what you want and you are always welcome to post your idea in the ideas section here. Worry not, it is just how the search works.
Throw a like my way or choose this as a solution if I helped!
If this is an intentional change, I have to say it is absolutely nonsensical. There is no reason for the top result (i.e. the most relevant result of a search) to be something that is not actually the most relevant result. Yeah, the songs appear on the right... but that's just the song section of the search result (just like the artist and album sections of the result down below). There is no logical reason for the top result to specifically exclude songs (especially given how often people search for song titles). If this is indeed an intended change, it is so poorly thought out.
I'm actually having trouble believing the developers actually meant for this to be how the search works now. I'm bewildered. I hope it gets reverted in the upcoming update.
Hi @circline,
Thanks for reaching out to the Community.
As @Amayy mentioned, this is the expected behavior of the Search function right now in the Top Result section, but you can always find the exact item you were searching for in the different sections of the Search page (songs, albums, playlists, etc.).
However, we appreciate your feedback on the matter and we'll make sure to pass it on to the right folks.
If you need anything else, the Community is here for you.
Take care!
An additional problem to this (which is annoying as is) is that clicking on any of the results will add it to the "recent searches" bar, for all but songs. For someone like me, who uses said bar quite frequently, it's just the worst, as now I can't "save" a song without adding it to a playlist, which isn't something I always want to do. I'm sure that fixing this would mitigate some of the issues.
