Unable to replay Podcast Episode(s)

My Question or Issue

This only happens in my podcasts, but my episodes will get stuck near the end, retaining their 'unfinished' symbol on the left. When I try to play the episode, it just skips to the next one (or the one after that if the next one is broken too). It only ever happens to episodes I have already listened to, never to new ones. 

For anyone with the same issue: I found a workaround by going to the browser application, selecting the url to the single episode and then listening to that... but that is a lot of effort for something that continues to happen, especially since the effect carries on to my phone where I can't do it on.
