What is the Private Session?

I am just wondering what is Private Session? I don't want my songs to be shared on the Spotify Activity bar next to my friend's activity. Does having Private Session checked mean I can listen withoutsharing my activity?

In the windows client preferences you can turn off scrobbling, and activity sharing on MSN, Facebook and Spotify Social which, I think covers everything.

Hi guys,

On the mac app, it seems that choosing not to share in the preferences section overrides everything so there isn't a need for a private session? Does choosing this preference automatically apply the same the android app? In the app I only see the option for a private session?

Cheers

Okay, question:

What if I'm in private session, and I choose to share a song with friends on Tumblr. Does it actually void out the fact that I'm private to my followers on Spotify, or do I only see it on my feed?

Anything you share from within Spotify will be posted to your Spotify feed, so your followers will still see it; however, you can always just right click a track, album, or artist and copy the http link or the embed code if you only want to share it to Tumblr. So, no, posting that link will not void your private session in any way.

I think its completely ridiculous for me having to turn off sharing in Spotify every time I used this payed service. I am not on Spotify to share anything, just listen to music.

Once and for all. Will what I listen to show up on the right-hand side to my friends if I don't use Private Session? I am not connected to any social networks through Spotify.

@filipwinter - No as long as you have unselected the "Share my activity and what I listen to with my followers on Spotify" in the Preferences menu.

@donnyd51

In the Spotify desktop app, go to the preferences and under "Privacy" there will be 2 check boxes.

Make sure both "share my activity and what I listen to with my followers on Spotify" and "share my activity and what I listen to on Facebook"

are both UNCHECKED

That should stop the sharing.

No, you need to select private session everytime you start Spotify.

you go to settings, then social, then private session. hope this helps!

Does this also mean that no one will be able to see what I listen to on the actual spotify activity feed itself?

As far as I know no one will be able to see what are you listening to.

Hi @octavia19,

Spotify allows you to play on 1 device as the time. If you want to play on more than one, then it's best to subscribe to a Family subscription. That allows you to setup multiple accounts for multiple devices. You can read more about this here.

It's just a where your music activity won't get posted to any social media you have connected

Under File / Preferences, there is also a Social Media section where you can control different premissions but i am not sure if you have to go in [Private session] on top of that, if someone has an idea maybe they can share.

I never share what I listen to on facebook anyway.

I would like "private session" to mean "do not *connect* or change the play queue on any of my other devices but still remain online so I can play music that isn't downloaded and browse artists etc.".

Unfortunately it appears to not mean that, i.e. I can't keep this listening properly "private" from all my other devices.

So from the subject, it is quite confusing but what I am trying to say is how do you get 2 people listening to music at the same time but not listen to there's
