My Question or Issue

I can't get Spotify Desktop to play any songs.   On the same machine, the web player will work just fine.

I have:

  • Checked, there are no weird HOSTS entries
  • I've logged out/in
  • I've uninstalled the Win10 Store app (restarted)
  • I've cleared all cached local data
  • I've installed the Win10 store app (did not work)
  • I've uninstalled Win10 store app again (restarted)
  • Scrubbed local data again
  • I've installed the Desktop edition instead (did not work)
  • I've reset all my audio device settings
  • I've updated all the drivers on my machine, including audio

With the Desktop edition, I could access the ability to show the console.

Any time I play a song, I get CDN errors:

  • CDN failure 131072->655360. Error: download_no_size (5). Http: 416.
  • CDN failure 0->524288. Error: download_not_complete (8). Http: 502.

My internet is fine.  This is the same network I was using yesterday.  Using my mobile phone as a hotspot, I get the same problems.

What now?  I can't fix CDN failures.

I diagnosed this further with the Spotify support team.  It is something specific to the network I'm on, meaning not a Spotify issue.

Hey I don't know if this fix will work for you, but it did for me for the exact same problem. Almost no songs were playing properly and I followed the steps in this other post.

I have the exact same problem. I can play all music with the Webplayer and my Iphone app, but the Windows 10 Desktop client gives me the same CDN HTTP 416 errors, you described.

What did you do to resolve this? I am on the same network as others, and they can play music using the client without problems.

Honestly, I didn't.  I'm assuming there's a networking issue somewhere, but since I'm out of the office for a week, I won't be able to troubleshoot this case even if someone has brilliant ideas.

It was frustrating.  Other users on the exact same network - no issues.

That's a bummer.

But I'm out of office for a few days, as well. Maybe it gets fixed in the mean time. Hopefully.

I just got an update for the Win10 client and now it seems to work again.

The HTTP 416 responses when trying to connect to the CDN are gone from the log as well.
