My Question or Issue

If I put close Spotify, then my PC to sleep (Windows sleep mode), and then awaken my PC, and then double click on the Spotify app to restart it, I get the Windows error message from the Spotify app: "The Spotify application is not responding."
I can resolve this by shutting down the PC and restarting it. If I do so, then the Spotify App will restart.

This shouldn't happen because this doesn't happen with other apps.  If I close Word, for example, put the PC to sleep, and then re-open Word, it opens as normal. Same with other apps like Chrome, or VLC player.

Correction:  "If I close Spotify, then put my PC to sleep..."

Hi there @sqgmcotr5dust7,

Thanks for reaching out. When did this first start happening? Did it work before or did the behaviour first arise after a specific Spotify and/or Windows update? Consider performing a clean reinstall, this can help fix a lot of different issues. If the issue persists, send us some screenshots and we'll investigate further.

Let us know how it goes.

this same issue happens to me too.

Spotify does not let me skip songs after putting it to sleep. Only working on restart.

Hey @Jerry28774,

Thanks for reaching out!

Just to check, have you tried a clean reinstall as suggested by @Joan earlier in the thread?

If that doesn't do the trick, can you let us know what device and operating system version you're using, along with the Spotify version? A video showing how things look from your end would also be helpful. Should the files be too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us as unlisted YouTube videos or via Google Drive.

Let us know how you get on.

Spotify Search and Browse functionalities are not working when PC goes to sleep and wakes up. I tried on 3 different desktop PCs, with Windows 10 and Windows 11, installed from website and from Microsoft Store, I installed on clean system, all have the same behaviour. I have to go to menu -> Exit Spotify, wait a minute and restart and then everything works. It works fine on MacBook Pro. It is very annoying bug.

I'm posting here following the guide (finding the closest issue to the one I'm experiencing).

Hey folks,

Thanks for the info and for posting here.

For anyone still experiencing this issue, please make sure to update the app to the newest available version.

If that doesn't change anything for you, let us know what device this is happening on, as well as if you're using Windows 10.

Cheers!

I'm always on latest Spotify version. It is happening on both Windows 10 and Windows 11, I would appreciate if you read my original post please.

Spotify for Windows (64 bit)
1.2.31.1205.g4d59ad7c

Yep, I also have the issue... very annoying.

Hey folks!

If the Spotify 1.2.32. update is available to you, could you take a look if the issue persists after installing it?
Many thanks in advance!

I have this problem as well.  Cannot browse or search after PC wakes up.  Restart of the app is required.  Currently running:

Spotify for Windows (64 bit)

Hi there @mbeatle,

Thanks for the reply. We haven't been getting many reports about this issue, so some sort of systemic problem seems unlikely in this case. Could you let us know what troubleshooting you've tried so far? That way we can gladly assist you further.

Keep us posted.

I am also still having this issue on Windows 11. The application will not work after sleep mode and it will also not stop or restart on it's own. I have to end the task in the task manager for it to stop. When I open the app again it works as expected.

Hey @nullbert,

We'd be happy to help out!
Following @Joan's reply, could you let us know which troubleshooting steps you've tried so far?
As this issue is not reproducible, there has to be a common denominator between all the affected devices.

You can also try updating your system's drivers to see if that would make a difference 🙂
Click here to see how this can be done. Cheers!

Currently, as soon as a laptop or desktop goes into sleep mode, which with recommended settings for windows 11 on a non-plugged in laptop is after only 10 minutes, Spotify will stop playing. Currently, the only way to keep Spotify playing without installing third-party software is to keep the screen on, and not in sleep mode. Doing this requires more power than if the screen was off, and I am wondering if there is a way to have Spotify still play even when in sleep mode. To clarify, I am not talking about hibernate mode, which happens after a longer time and actually shuts down apps. I am referring to sleep mode, which only makes the screen go black, and does allow apps to keep running.
