Windows app very slow

Windows app very slow

I find the windows desktop client to be very slow since a while back, to the point of almost being unusable.

Everything I do in the GUI takes forever. It can take 30-60 seconds to do anything, like going to preferences through the menu, or opening up a playlist folder.

My computer is by no means slow, with an i9-10900 CPU and 32 GB of RAM.

Spotify runs much better on my Macbook air, ipad, and Android phone. There the GUI responds instantly. Even the web player on my Windows computer is snappy.

There must be something seriously wrong with the current version of the Windows app.

Please help.

Hey there @mhult

Can you let me know if you have tried any troubleshooting? If not, can you try these steps and let me know if it helps?

If it doesn't help, can you let me know the Spotify version your device is running?

Looking out to your reply.

Yes, I have tried uninstalling, removing any leftover data, shutting down, and then re-installing from a different source.

It does not make any difference.

I can also inform that I have the exact same issue with Spotify on another Windows machine.

My conclusion is that there is not anything wrong with my installation, and more likely an issue with the software package itself.

I can see in task manager that Spotify puts a constant load of 100 percent on one of my CPU cores, even when I am not playing anything. This does not affect the computer as a whole, since it has 10 cores / 20 threads, but it indicates that there is a single threaded task in the Spotify app that is CPU strained. This is crazy. There is definitely something wrong with this app.

Again, Spotify is working beautifully on my Macbook air, ipad, and Android phone.

So I will likely not bother with the Windows client anymore until I hear that it has been fixed.

Perhaps this is a good time to check out Apple music?

I am running Spotify for Windows (64 bit) 1.2.39.578.g0ea3f38b

Hey @mhult! Thanks for providing more info!

I see. In this case, can you try toggling the Enable hardware acceleration feature on/off to see if it helps? Additionally, if you have Local files enabled, you can disable them to check if that makes a difference.

You mention the issue happens on two different PCs. Can you let me know if you tried using a different account in any of those tests?

Looking out to your reply.

Whenever I use Spotify on my phone or the web browser, it is fine and runs perfectly smoothly. However, when I use the desktop application it runs so slow that it is practically unusable. I have tried downloading it multiple times. After I close the application and re-open it, it says "This application is unavailable at this time." It only stops saying that if I open task manager, and manually disable it. I have a decent PC, which I built myself, so there are no internal hardware issues with my computer. Everything is also up to date so Windows is not the problem either. I am running Windows 10. Rebooting my computer does not help additionally.
