My Question or Issue

Spotify gives me the error message "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it." when I try to play any song from a certain album (TeenWitch by BONES). It has happened at least 4 times between opening and closing the app. I have the album downloaded as well and it is imported to spotify. Is this album being censored by spotify? I am allowing explicit songs and have good connection. Everything else works. Let me know if this is the wrongsection/forum.

Hmmm.... i checked to make sure that songs were available in your region and it is so im not sure whats going on.  However another thing you could try is delete local file cache. To do this go to %appdata% > roaming > Spotify > User > Your Account Name > delete Local-Files.   Also make sure that you are closed out of Spotify before doing this so then when you launch Spotify again it would already be corrected.

Let me know how it goes!

Okay, so incase that didn't work for you, as it didn't for me, I found another solution.

Open control panel and go to Hardware and Sound>Sound. Click on your default device and open properties>Advanced. Then change the format to something higher or lower. After pressing 'Apply' My Spotify worked again. (After it worked, set your quality to the highest it can go, better audio quality and all)

I know it doesn't make a lot of sense on the face of things, but try changing your speaker output. (on your system)

If anyone still wondering here, like me, and tried all methods here and none resolved. It was so simple which made me think I'm the dumbest person in the world.

Windows Settings > System > Sound > Advanced Sound Options > App Volume and Device Preferences.

If Spotify isn't showing, try to play anything. If showing in the list, check if the "Output" box is selected with the your Output device you are using (Headset, speakers, TV, etc.). Mine was blank, I switched to my Headset and it solved.

I actually found out that Voicemeeter's VB-Audio A driver is not working properly with Spotity. Spotify gets angry and throws a tantrum, much like other non-win32 programs. Dang Electron apps 😛
Currently it sits back on VAIO3 where I get delicious audio at 96kHz. But This is a wonderful solution for those that have Sampling problems.

Hey there @flint133,

Thank you for your post.

As @Xenia mentioned we have an Ongoing Issue about this that you can find in this thread. There's also different solutions that might help you in there.

Also - could you try with another internet connection to see if the issue persists?

We also recommend you do a clean reinstall.

We're always one reply away if you need us.

Cheers!

Hello!
This error keeps happening:
"Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it."
I did all I know and can on the list and it seems asking someone directly isn't a straight forward process.
I would not call this problem "solved".

Thank you

I have same problem for a some time now and nothing described here works. I have deleted local files, uninstalled/installed Spotify, updated audio drivers, configured audio quality lowest possible, 44000hz stereo, disabled all sound effects, hardware acceleration and so on. But still if I go to some artist/album/playlist and start playing I always get that error. Almost always on first songs I try. It starts playing, gets choppy and displays error message. Sometimes it starts playing on second try, usually not. Its getting really annoying.

Hi there @sasilik

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community and letting us know the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.

We understand you've already reinstalled the app, but we'd like to suggest a clean reinstall as it's more thorough than a regular one and can be helpful to get rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

We'd also recommend checking your firewall and antivirus to make sure Spotify is whitelisted or set as an exception.

Keep us posted.

AV is not a problem and I don't have firewall installed on local PC. But we have corporate firewall and as I can see log files then seems that something doesn't play well with it and some packages are blocked even when Spotify application is enabled. I guess I must dig deeper and corporate firewall may be the culprit here.

Hi @sasilik

Thanks for your reply.

Keep in mind that some corporate networks can restrict access to certain services, including Spotify.

In this case, we'd recommend contacting the responsible for managing the network for more information regarding this.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Spotify application is not restricted and media streaming is enabled. There are some general errors like "HTTP parsing error occurred" and "Received out of range HTTP 206 response" and which are blocked.

Hey @sasilik

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

Could you try giving these steps a try in order to check your host files?

Another thing you could try is running the app as administrator to see if you notice any difference.

Let us know how it goes.

 Hey @novy,

there is no problem with hosts file, it is empty. Also running Spotify as administrator does not eliminate the problem. On the firewall side one problem may be the resource allocation in firewall itself and another more probable seems the situation that pieces of audio files between Spotify app and server do not move in order. That means something like "when downloading files server responses with HTTP 206 "Partial content" and sends the file in parts. When the first part is not the beginning of the file, there is a difficulty tracking the whole file and therefore for security reason, Security Gateway is blocking this part."

Hey folks,

Thanks for getting back to us.

@efe_ilicak, @Caixinha, we're glad to hear that you're no longer experiencing this issue. If anything else comes up, you know where to find us 🙂

@sasilik, keep in mind that we can't ensure the optimal performance of the app if there are restrictions on your device.

In this case, we'd recommend reaching out to your local technical specialist for further help.

If anything else comes up, don't hesitate to let us know.

 Hello,

our firewall admin configured firewall not to drop these out of order/range packets. Just for reference, "Received out of range HTTP 206 response" error in Content Awareness (checkpoint.com)
And seems that it fixed problem for me at last.
