Same here, I'm done. It's time to cancel my Premium plan. I'm tired of wasting time fixing these bugs.

I had this problem - for me it was that Windows had set Spotify to play using speakers "" (none). Setting to Default fixed it.

check the audio device, if the default audio is via hdmi it does not work, I had to change it to play via the computer audio before it worked.

This worked for me.  Fought with trying everything else.  Uninstalled, went to windows store, downloaded and started playing within a minute.  Almost canceled my account trying to fight with Spotify's download.  Soo frustrating!

I just unplugged then re-plugged in my headphones and it works. I have no idea why

Hey this problem/bug or whatever still exists am having trouble not only on Windows app but also in browser please check this.

Hey @ok000,

Could you confirm that you've tried all troubleshooting steps provided in this thread? Make sure also that the sample rate of your audio output device is set anywhere between 44.1 kHz and 192 kHz, as Spotify does not currently support higher sample rate.

Cheers!

THANK YOU

Hello! Adding to the conversation, I had this issue with nothing playing, ever, whether it was a downloaded song, or a song i never downloaded, attempted to play, or anything. The system did not have audio output (accidentally plugged headphones into mic slot, so no actual way to put out sound was there). correctly plugging an audio output fixed it. St-p-d bug, as  the announcement will lead you to think its related to the files and not the audio itself. But in my case, that was the issue.

My Question or Issue

A little box pops up that says Spotify can't play this track right now. Instead of going to the next track it plays a random song that isn't even on the play list. It says that it's playing the next song. The little thumbnail has those little bars that indicates it's playing, but it's actually playing that random song. Why doesn't it play the next song? Sometimes this box pops up on multiple songs in a row. The same thing happens on web and desktop app.

Hi @Yordan, i'm on Spotify premium, listening on Linux Manjaro in my Firefox web browser, and getting this same error, randomly. could you please summarize the specific troubleshooting steps from this thread that i must try?

Hey @q-1,

Welcome to the thread!

You can go through the comments in the thread to see what the other mods have suggested, but for instance, can you send us the link to the content you're unable to play, so we can check on our end? Does the same error appear in the web player or on a different device too?

It'd be great if you could also let us know all the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far, as well as send over the device and OS version, and the Spotify version you're running. The more info you provide, the better.

We'll be on the lookout for your response 🙂

I've just experienced this issue on my laptop. I have no issues on my phone. I can play the first song but afterwards I get that "spotify can't play this right now. if you have the file on your computer" and no other songs can play. I uninstalled spotify and re-installed on my laptop and still can't play any songs besides the first track. I cleared the cache and I am still unable to play anything. What is going on?

This is obviously a Spotify issue that they do not have the ability or resources to fix.

Try disabling hardware acceleration:
Click on the three dots (top-left) -> Help -> Troubleshooting -> Disable Hardware Acceleration and restart

Bringing it to the lowest only worked for me 16bit 44100hz

Still an issue none of the solutions work. Spotify = cancer company 5years no one solved this issue.

My Spotify desktop client isn't playing any songs.
Each time I attempt to play anything I get a popup saying "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it."

I've closed and relaunched Spotify, restarted my computer, cleared cache, used the system try icon to 'Troubleshooting > Reload', and 'Troubleshooting > Reset App Data and Restart', reinstalled Spotify. None of this has worked.

my windows app is offline without being in offline mode. i think it is a downtime of spotify.

**bleep** thank you so much for posting this picture, i was two seconds away from throwing a screwdriver at my mobo 😄
