songs play on pc speaker, not the external speakers attached to the PC

Welcome to the Spotify Community!

Sounds like the wrong audio output device is selected for Spotify. You can do this by following the steps below:

1. In Windows' search bar type "Sound mixer settings" and press Enter.
2. Locate Spotify in the list of apps currently playing audio and tap the arrow on the right next to the volume slider to expand additional options.
3. You'll see the Output device underneath. Select the correct audio output device from the dropdown menu on the right and that should do the trick.
