volume bar is no longer green (now it's grey) can't get sound at all

Windows 10

I have been listening to Spotify on my work laptop (Windows 10) forever and then all of a sudden the volume bar is grey (not green) and no sound.  I have uninstalled the app and reinstalled and I have checked my Windows are up to date, shut down, restarted - nothing changes the volume issue.   Even tried to listen through Spotify website streaming online instead, still not working.   My laptop volume is great, settings look fine, no issues with listening to literally everything else I want.

Edit*  I forgot to add, if I hover over the bar and move it back and forth it does change to green (still no sound though) but it does as soon as I move mouse off the bar it is back to grey.

Hey there @CookieKirk,

We really appreciate you sharing this here in the Community!

We hope you don’t mind us replying now as we just stumbled upon this thread.

Just to confirm, are you still experiencing this? If so, we’d first recommend trying a clean reinstall of the app on your laptop since this step is more thorough than a regular reinstall.

If that doesn’t do the trick, check if some entries in your hosts file need to be removed by following the steps here.

Keep us posted! We’ll be happy to help further, just give us a shout.
