Update: Spotify for Linux v0.9.4 is now available. See here.
Hi everybody!
Today we pushed the latest and greatest Spotify client to our repository. This time you're getting the good stuff first, this version has only been rolled out to a small percentage of Windows/Mac users. It contains some of the features that were presented on our recent press event, such as being able to follow artists and tastemakers. Have a look at the brand new Follow page, where you can find interesting artists and other people to follow. You'll get updates on their activity, such as newly released albums etc.
As for Linux-specific fixes, there are some minor bug fixes. The biggest change is the packaging. The client now is installed to /opt and it uses XDG mechanisms to register icons and menus. The executable is now also built without hardcoded paths to libraries. This means that the folder can be put anywhere and just run from there. Unfortunately, this release still depends on libssl0.9.8. We'll try to get rid of that in upcoming releases!
The new client is just a "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" away!
What, you don't already have Spotify installed? Lookie here: http://www.spotify.com/download/previews/
Don't use Debian? Check out these zip packages:

Edit: updated to include the zip packages.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Thanks, great reference!
I have updated spotify-make [1] on github to cope with this, at the moment only the devel branch.

How to install Spotify to linux w/o commands? Somehow I was able once to find link to packet which opened Ubunty Software center?
No one support Linux at Spotify.
So hard to install and even if I was ONCE able to install - it was noting than a plenty of wut. They used to have at the same time CMD open (Command) - oh god why? And seriously no image on Spotify app in Linux in sidebar?
I love Linux and I never go back to Windows in my life.
Web Player no 320 kbps.
If I change to Google Play. And that will be soon... I go with new rules. Only long remixes to my list eg. DJ Gollum Remix, DJ Restlezz Remix, DJ Manian vs. Tune Up! Remix... And only best ones, no tracks like "It's ok". Also the Google Play player it's simpler and noneeded social stuff is out. That I really hate most on Spotify. Like playlist suggestions... Radio also most variety, no same over and over. It's also a way louder than Spotify in sound - which is "greit think".
Just get on the floor, what are you waiting for - dudududidadu!
I'm sorry, I had bad mood yesterday.
I really don't hate Spotify that much... but really on Google Play some great options like you can re-order your play queue, swipe off tracks from radio, you don't want to hear from queue. But one thing bad: really bad cover quality, sound volume different - almost impossible to listen w/o volume changing all the time. That all is better on Spotify.
I still can't install Spotify to my Linux, but maybe it's all for good. I enjoy it on my smartphone and earphones from Sennheiser,
Please Spotify, improve your Web Player - so it could be better option on Linux.
Hi there,
I just installed Spotify to Robolinux by following your Installation to Linux advice. Works like a charm. 🙂
