New Spotify Design

My Spotify was recently upgraded to the new design and I like it.. but have a few suggestions.

Make font and column width smaller or adjustable.
Not that I don't like the black but it's harder to see.
Possibly give us the option to choose from a White or Black UI skin in the settings?

Just some thoughts. -Jay.

Re: New Spotify Design

Totaly dislike the new dark interface Spotify has. I have trouble reading white on black text. This app needs some kind of theme switcher or just a normal-coloured theme.

I'm sorry but the new design is TERRIBLE. Too dark, no contrast, playlists are too spaced. I can't even use it. Please allow us to back-track to the old UI until you polish this new one.

The typography is too much. I have to full screen the player now to see all the content. Shrink the line-spacing and the font size. I have to scroll down on the left-nav to the playlists now. I don't use anything in "MAIN" It takes up more space and gives less value.

Please fix soon.

Re: New Spotify Design

hlsmithard, I recommend you to go back to 0.9.7 - uninstall Spotify and download the 0.9.7 installer, install it and then do as the instructions here say to disable automatic updates: http://www.javiersantos.me/post/82199053318/download-for-win-os-x-turn-back-to-the-previous-spotify

You'll get the good old Spotify back again.

The new one is a disaster. The one who came up with the new UI should be publicly disgraced. It's terrible, I couldn't come up with a more terrible design. Everything is ridiculously huge and black & white.

Re: New Spotify Design

The solution is to have a day and night theme. Daytime should use white and lighter colors which are easier to distinguish with backlighting and glare. Night theme should be what the new theme is because white is eye burning late at night in a dark room.

The problem is in the two separate use cases of Spotify. The late night crowd didn't like all the white and the daytime crowd now doesn't like the black.

Ideally their should be an option to switch themes automatically based on the local time of day.

I don't have a problem with the spacing changes but this dark theme has left me squinting against the harsh glare off my monitor.

Re: New Spotify Design

I will not cancel my sub yet but i have forced the rollback to 0.9.7.

There's no need to tell why, everyone are saying the same thing.

I will add : Let us choose our favourite theme !

I vote for the old one, so for this reason i blocked the auto-update.

If you wish to do same than me that's easy, download the full version 0.9.7 on Filehippo for example

- Then go to spotify's folder

- Create 2 blanks files : spotify_new.exe and spotify_new.exe.sig (delete the already existing files)

- Give them the Read Only attribut

- Install the 0.9.7

- Run Spotify, here you go, you won't be warned anymore for auto-update.

You don't need to uninstall the newest and it works (for me it works like a charm on Windows).

You can repeat same procedure for Mac OS if you know where are your files, you just have to block those 2 files.

"The solution is to have a day and night theme. Daytime should use white and lighter colors which are easier to distinguish with backlighting and glare. Night theme should be what the new theme is because white is eye burning late at night in a dark room."

THIS IS THE BEST IDEA YET.....AS FAR AS DARK/WHITE.

Personally, I've been on "dark" sites and I'd look away from the screen seeing lines, ghosting and my vision was all out of whack. I don't know why but this doesn't happen with this new design. In fact, after a day of adapting it is actually easier on my eyes. Day or night but especially at night.

I think the point is that WE NEED TO HAVE AN OPTION to change from one to the other.

Re: New Spotify Design

"Just a quick reminder to stay on-topic and civil."

"Sorry Moderator. We just had someone on the thread saying they approved of the new Spotify interface although it flouts several accepted interface design rules, provides no alternative options and takes no account of user feedback. But in spite of this we will try to remain civil."

You are saying that it is okay to be non civil because someone disagrees with you.

"as this place is obvioulsy for losers"

Well this place seems to be filled with people asking for stupid features, and sending corrections on metadata when spotify never actually fixes them. I guess that makes one a loser.

Yes, there really should be an alternative. Good luck.

A new desktop version? What's the version number? Just curious, as mine looks the same as always.

Re: New Spotify Design

Wait, so, this isn't public yet ? Uh, so many version running in parallel my head spins. Probably why the older clients have the browse feature removed. When is this going live and how will it be updated ?

Re: New Spotify Design

All Spotify updates are done automatically, you will get a blue "Restart Spotify to update" message when the new release reaches your account (as normal).

It is not unusual for Spotify to roll out updates incrementally, rather than to go public all at once, so they can gather feedback and stomp out any issues before it goes out to everyone. Easier to put on 10,000 fires than 100's of millions ;)

Just put your feet up, relax and enjoy the music. It will make it out to you when it's time!
