[0.8.8] Ability to View All Facebook Friends in Follow Tab

Please note: This idea only applies to Spotify desktop clients 0.8.8+

Since the latest Spotify release (at time of writing only rolled out to around 1% of users) the "People" tab has been removed and replaced with the new "Follow" tab. The functionality is great actually, allowing you to follow your friends as well as artists.

However, I really miss the ability to view all of my Facebook friends like in the People tab in the old client. In the new system, the Follow tab only offers suggestions and it is difficult to locate a single friend.

All I am suggesting is a simple "View All" button in the Follow tab:

Which would allow me to view all of my Facebook friends with the Follow/Unfollow buttons shown, therefore making it easy to find a single friend, rather than currently having to either dig up a playlist from Facebook online or coninually refreshing the suggestions box.

Handy Tip:

If you are connected to Facebook, you can view any friends profile by typing their name into the main desktop search box, their profile should be offered as a suggestion under the heading "Users" (image in spoiler below). This however is not replacement for being able to view all of your friends!

Hey everyone. You can now follow all your Facebook friends on Spotify. From the Desktop app go to Activity > View All. From there you can filter by name to find the Facebook friends you want to follow.

Hey rayschalch,

In the old 0.8.5 version you should be able to view all the subscribers to a playlist at the top of the playlist.

Any playlist which is public is subscribable, and you will see a subscribe/unsubscribe button at the top of the playlist (not your own).

I can see friends are listening to spotify through Facebook but I still can't see them on spotify to even try and follow them, this is pretty frustrating consider we always were exchanging music amongst us... perhaps canceling the premium is in order.....

No one is going to sit there and add each facebook friend by hand. This was a poor move by Spoify. I know they want peopel to follow artists but none of the artists I follw even uses Spotify so basically you jsut took the friends feature away becasue I'm not goign to waste time clicking follow hundreds of times. A follow all button would make more sense but when peopel join are you goign to have to sift through and find these peopel each time? Annoying! I wish I could downgrade to the previous version.

It would be nice if Spotify included a search feature where you could look up one of your Facebook/ Spotify friends, quickly access their profile, and follow them. Currently there is no easy way to achieve this.

Yes i agree this needs fixing; I loved to see what my friends were playing and I liked the idea of them seeing what i play.

I am far too busy to go through my facebook friend and 'follow'......and what if they can't be arsed following others? Eveyone had a little window into the music choices of freinds now that window was shut in an instant.

SPOTIFY I will cancel my subscribtion if this is not rolled back....i have just googled "Aletrnatives to Spotify" ...seems to be some popular choices available

I miss the feature too - it was fun to see what your friends were listening to without having to explicitly follow them. I got to listen to some cool stuff I'd never thought of listening to before.

Wouldn't be easier to add a hide feature for facebook friends and an add feature for artists?

Michael

It's sad that this has to be brought forward as an improvement idea.

Whoever thought of crippling this feature in the first place didn't do his or her job well.

I mean, WTF? This is essential!

Agreed that this would be a great feature to add.  I am not looking forwards to adding all of my facebook friends to my followers list one by one.

Here's an idea: make the people list the people list again. That's easy. Stop billboarding us with artists to follow that's what the What's New section is for that I see every time I open Spotify.

What a perfect system - I liked a song, I'd drag & drop it to the appropriate people - they got it in their inbox and/or facebook message and guess what, they'd listen to it! --- Matter of fact, I am solely responsible for at least 20 people signing up for Spotify by stressing how easy it was to SHARE songs.

Sure, we can all right mouse click and 3 clicks later share it - but I'm not going to do that for 3 or 5 people - so I basically stopped sharing. And they've basically stopped sharing with me.

Another thought - an extension to this idea: As a premium user, make it my choice if I want the marketing department's suggestions of artists to folow. If I don't want to be a band groupie, then let me quietly opt out already.

And a final note: I don't know who the UX/UI designer was for the new right sidebar, but it is bloated and incoherent enough that I've alltogether turned it off. So at this point, should you magically see the light and bring back the highly functional people list that existed before, I won't even know about it.
