I've just started a trial of Qobuz - they offer the standard 320kbps as well as lossless FLAC streaming (and high res downloads if you purchase them) the sound quality is noticeably better and on classical it's just wonderful to get all that resolution through your hi-fi or headphones! The catalogue has a way to go to get to Spotify's level, but they are getting there. The iPad app isn't' too bad (the desktop app is in need of an upgrade but I hear they are putting all their efforts into mobile apps right now).

So - lossless streaming - if Qobuz can do it then so can Spotify, they must have the same source - and obviously if you are asking £20 a month then those record labels and distributors take enough notice to make the high res tracks available for streaming. What this all means is soon, very soon, we will get lossless streaming and closely followed by high res downloads - but if Spotify aren't careful it will be Apple who get there first with an audiophile premium offering, and when they do it will be a much harder market place to make money in!

** please don't lump this suggestion with the main one on lossless downloads, that's a different idea entirely guys!

And in that same article by Hypebot, it stated, "That competitors launched lossless audio at no additional cost rather than the $19.99 that many predicted, may be why Spotify moved its “most requested feature” down the priority list; and recent comparative growth stats suggest that the decision has gone almost unnoticed by consumers."

It's infuriating to me that consumers don't have a clue when it comes to the benefits of better sound quality, and obviously don't speak up for it!

And the fact that Spotify is reneging on their promise of lossless CD quality tells you everything you need to know about their (lack of) integrity!

Any chance anyone from Spotify will comment the topic ?

I don't understand their strategy in remaining silent around the hires implementation. Topic for which the demand is high (among the hifi interested people in here) and for which, unfortunately for Spotify, many offers are available and accessible. I guess Spotify isn't afraid of losing a thousands of subscribers to this. 

I'm waiting some more but if Spotify doesn't provide some clear info soon, i'll be quitting the ship.

No. They never respond. Go back and read when I just said this a couple
weeks ago, because people keep asking, and no one ever responds for years
now (except the one announcement which, as every one has stated has had no
follow up).

Lossless hifi is definitely a better experience,  if you got the equipment to benefit from it.  Spotify's silence upon their promise is deafening.  Fortunately there are alternatives;  Qobuz,  Tidal, Deezer,  Amazon and Apple,  offering lossless music around the price of Spotify premium.  All of these offer incredibly good value introduction offers which can be run at the same time as Spotify.  Why not try one,  or all,  of them?  It's currently a buyer's market and maybe Spotify's current emphasis is on securing its controversial podcast acquisition.  Why wait for SPOTIFY to decide when it feels the time is right for YOU to enjoy hifi?  Try the alternatives.
