[All Platforms][Music] HiFi Quality - Lossless Streaming 16bit 44.1khz

I've just started a trial of Qobuz - they offer the standard 320kbps as well as lossless FLAC streaming (and high res downloads if you purchase them) the sound quality is noticeably better and on classical it's just wonderful to get all that resolution through your hi-fi or headphones! The catalogue has a way to go to get to Spotify's level, but they are getting there. The iPad app isn't' too bad (the desktop app is in need of an upgrade but I hear they are putting all their efforts into mobile apps right now).

So - lossless streaming - if Qobuz can do it then so can Spotify, they must have the same source - and obviously if you are asking £20 a month then those record labels and distributors take enough notice to make the high res tracks available for streaming. What this all means is soon, very soon, we will get lossless streaming and closely followed by high res downloads - but if Spotify aren't careful it will be Apple who get there first with an audiophile premium offering, and when they do it will be a much harder market place to make money in!

I'm delighted to say Lossless is now rolling out. It will happen gradually, to more than 50 markets through October. Premium subscribers in Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the US, and the UK have already started to get access.

Spotify Premium: Now Streaming in Lossless Quality

On September 12, I received a message in the Spotify app saying that Lossless was coming soon, and that I’d get another notification once it became available.
I haven’t received any further messages, but I can now select “Lossless” in the audio quality settings.
However, tracks are playing in 16-bit/44.1 kHz, not 24-bit/44.1 kHz, even when streaming from “24-bit” playlists or brand-new albums.
I haven’t found any songs available in 24-bit quality yet.
Could it be that the Lossless rollout is happening gradually and is currently limited to 16-bit in some regions?
I’m located in Belgium.

I'm hoping lossless now updates with Spotify Connect so we can use it on more devices such as Smart TV's, Google Home devices etc.

I wonder when we can expect an update in Ukraine🙄

  • Thanks Spotify for bringing Lossless! 🙌
Could you please add genre/style filters inside playlists?
That would make large playlists easier to organize 🙏

Unfortunately, you shouldn't expect anything in Ukraine. Animations on album covers haven't even appeared in Ukraine. So I had to specifically switch from a Ukrainian to a German account to make it work. Unfortunately, Spotify considers our country third-rate and unworthy of updates.

Too little, too late Spotify you’re just not good enough:

Not any better for Mac and iOS users either:

Oh no, not again this stupid video from this clueless person. He is talking
about Spotify on Windows playback or from a phone, who cares about that?
When you are serious about lossless you have a dedicated streamer or an amp
with streamer possibilities and Spotify delivers the stream bit-perfect to
most streamers. Stop spreading this nonsense, please.

I already knew about the video. Considering that Spotify is actually a crappy store, you're in third place out of five in terms of quality. I'm surprised that Apple Music ranks so poorly here.

Is the full list of countries that will receive lossless known?
