[All Platforms][Music] HiFi Quality - Lossless Streaming 16bit 44.1khz

I've just started a trial of Qobuz - they offer the standard 320kbps as well as lossless FLAC streaming (and high res downloads if you purchase them) the sound quality is noticeably better and on classical it's just wonderful to get all that resolution through your hi-fi or headphones! The catalogue has a way to go to get to Spotify's level, but they are getting there. The iPad app isn't' too bad (the desktop app is in need of an upgrade but I hear they are putting all their efforts into mobile apps right now).

So - lossless streaming - if Qobuz can do it then so can Spotify, they must have the same source - and obviously if you are asking £20 a month then those record labels and distributors take enough notice to make the high res tracks available for streaming. What this all means is soon, very soon, we will get lossless streaming and closely followed by high res downloads - but if Spotify aren't careful it will be Apple who get there first with an audiophile premium offering, and when they do it will be a much harder market place to make money in!

Updated on 2025-09-10

I'm delighted to say Lossless is now rolling out. It will happen gradually, to more than 50 markets through October. Premium subscribers in Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the US, and the UK have already started to get access.

11.5 years after the first post here.. finally got lossless activated on my french account.

Had to remove all my Spotify Connect devices from the Android app and re-add them to be able to set lossless otherwise they were stuck on the "320kbps" setting with lossless being greyed out with a "device not compatible" message... It literally takes a few seconds but how the **bleep** was I supposed to know that?

Anyway. It's here.

How did you do it? I deleted the access to my Yamaha amplituner after
logging to spotify online, and tried to add it once again, with no luck. Do
i have to reinstall the spitify app on my phone?

Not working for Musiccast Yamaha devices, anybody any suggestion?

@amaropolska86 from the Spotify Android app I just removed my Spotify Connect devices, and a few seconds later they appeared again in the list (as the app scans for them automatically), I just connected again and the lossless parameter was not greyed out anymore for those devices.

Before, lossless had been made available to me (that's the prerequisite to everything) but the lossless parameter was greyed out for my Spotify Connect devices:

After removing the device and re-adding it from the Spotify app, lossless parameter was selectable:

@amaropolska86

I use a Yamaha receiver and lossless works. Although not in 24bit yet. The support told me, that they are working on an update to make 24bit streaming with spotify possible.

amaropolska86
yes well I have the musiccast app and tidal is working without problems...
but i cannot seem to make spotify lossless work anyhow, neither with
musiccast app nor with spotify connect, it always tells me: high quality
(the one immediately below lossless). guess i have to wait for the software
update.

Hi,

I have lossless enabled on my Android app for streaming and downloading, but on the Windows app I only have it for streaming:

How to enable lossless for downloading on Windows ?

I erased my downloaded titles from my Android and Windows app in order to download them in lossless, it worked on Android (my library is 50go) but not on Windows (library is 16Go).

Thanks for bringing us lossless, team Spotify! I forgive you for killing my Car Thing (and keep my fingers crossed that you'll develop a Spotify Connect plugin for foobar2000 :))
