[All Platforms] Option to have a true shuffle

So I’ve been noticing more and more recently that Spotify’s default shuffle feature doesn’t fully shuffle your songs. It does some sort of grouping to try to get similar songs together based off of what I’m sure is dozens of factors. Every time I shuffle a playlist (the one I noticed this with the most is ~100 songs and 6 hours of mostly full albums) it will group the songs mostly or completely together by album/artist, and given the number of times I’ve re-shuffled and checked the order there’s no way it’s just a coincidence. They also generally seem to be in the same order as well. If I hit shuffle play on a playlist it’ll generally put the same artists at the beginning every time.

With larger playlists of albums I am really not a fan of this shuffling method. If I have 6 hours of music on a playlist I will hardly ever have 6 hours to actually listen through the whole thing, but when I do listen to it I would like to hear all of the music on it equally, and not just the artist or two your algorithm likes to shuffle to first.

Anyways, I’m a reasonable man, all I’m asking for is an option to have a true shuffle (take all songs in the list, put them in a random order, and once they’re all played reshuffle them and play them again). Make it premium only if you want. I don’t think you should scrap the current shuffle algorithm because it sucks. Looking at some of the suggestions on here it seems like some people lobbied hard to have it that way. Just add an option for a true shuffle for those of us that don’t care about potentially getting the same song twice in a row.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and sharing your feedback.

We're setting this idea to Implemented with the introduction of the Fewer Repeats shuffling option which takes your recent listening history into account and can be found in Settings - Playback - Shuffle mode. Check out this For the Record post for more info.

Once again, thanks for helping us make Spotify better, by participating here on the Community!

Much easier solution, switch to a new provider. One that actually gives a
damn about their paying customers

I have a 400 song playlist with three (3) Maroon 5 songs in it.

Yesterday while driving around doing errands, shuffle play decided to play all 3 of those songs in the 20 minutes I was in the car. Each song is about 4 minutes long, so 12 of my 20 minutes was Maroon 5. By comparison, the whole playlist is about 1500 minutes long.

Hilarious, and sad.

See ... I like Foals, and I like one of their new songs. They're one of the more popular bands I listen to. So I WON'T add that song to my 2022 playlist because it'll play so much that I'll wind up hating it. If Spotify has some sort of tiered system in place for which bands play more often, I want no part of that. Seems like some artists could suffer because of listener burnout created by Spotify's algorithm.

Really?!  We have to vote to not have our music hidden from us??  I pay for premium so I can choose what I want to hear.  I don't need Spotify recomendations, I don't need advertisements for what you think I should play (after I've I've paid and disabled advertisements), and I most definitely do not need my playlists secretly limited to 150 songs.  Why does spotify like to take a dump on its paying users with each update?  I'm here to listen to music.  I have a brain.  I know what I want to hear, and it really upsets me that we are treated like we need Spotify to do the thinking for us.

Exactly! Keep your algorithms out of our business! ...unless it's discover weekly or release radar or an OPTIONAL feature for enhancing playlists or song/playlist/artist radio etc. Otherwise GTFO with your @!$^%@#^% algorithms. If I wanted weighted whatever, I'd go to the features of the app that provide that (and I actually do when I want to), but when I don't, I have no way of hearing something new without your garbage shuffle screwing up the process. Utter BS.

No point complaining folks, Spotify do not give a flying f*bleep* as they have proven beyond any reasonable doubt. If you go back a few dozen pages (that alone..... grrr) you'll see how they strung people along with their boloney sandwich of "let's get in touch" after which..... crickets

Vote with your feet. I did. Amazon Music is nice.

I’m on board with a true shuffle. I have 661 hours of music on my “All Music Playlist” but there are some songs I never hear ever. It shuffles the same artists/same songs and there’s no way it shuffles everything. I agree with a shuffle that, when I hit shuffle it plays every song, and then starts over again.

Don’t be hopeful when it comes to Spotify reading or responding to any of the hundreds of comments here. They have no interest in giving their subscribers true shuffle as it would affect their bottom line. No one associated with Spotify monitors this forum, except for laughs and water cooler comments like, “look at the comments these idiots submitted “.  There is but two choices. Cancel or keep tapping the next track arrow to hear what you want.

I just cancelled my long term subscription today and it felt...great! Sort of like getting out of a relationship that is going nowhere, quite relieving actually.
