Spotify should publish the required documentation for implementing Spotify Connect on internet-enabled receivers / speakers.

Updated on 2019-04-09

Hey folks,

Thanks for adding your vote to this idea.

Use of the Spotify Connect Web API is now in beta. You can check out the details here.

You can also find out a lot more about devloping with Spotify at the Spotify for Developers website.

Thanks!

Somethong I am waiting for. I consider to drop Premium subscription till connect gets available AS an API and can be implemented in Linux devices linke the rpi. Would be a reason to subscribe to premium.

Just bought myself a Raspberry Pi, assembled it, installed the excellent MusicBox software, just in order to stream to my stereo.

I was very disappointed to see that it wasn't using Spotify Connect (error on my part, I thought it was) so now it's basically useless for my purposes.

I hope Spotify adds this soon...

Same for me - I tried the Pi Music Box and was disappointed when I realised, that no spotify connect ws supported. This is a critical feature for enthusiasts, who already have a stereo system - and the only known alternative ( to me) is not available yet and too expensive: Hama DIT2000. I believe mor ecustomer would go for the Premium account with the spotify connect solution available for more platforms. In my case I already have a raspberry, which is Audio Player for my network based music (using Pi Music Box). If spotify connect would blend in, it would be really neat. Come on spotify! Get a move on! It's a chance to bring a bunch of people to spread a good word for you! I really hope you'll open up for a good idea as this one is.

After recently buying a new AV Receiver with Sotify Connect, I was immediately swayed away from Google Play Music for my streaming music provider.

I would absolutely love this feature.

gramofon looks ok and reasonably priced, but seemingly no digital output which is a dealbreaker for me.

PI Musicbox is great on the raspberry pi and works with a USB DAC but with spotify connect would be much simpler and robust solution (I hope).

Am currently running logitech media server plus multiple Raspberry Pi:s with USB-DAC:s and PiCorePlayer installed. This work ok, but SpotifyConnect would be much simpler and would also allow me to run the official Spotify client on my phone instead of the outdated Logitech client.

Please give us the API to turn our RasPi into a Connect client!

The "Rocki" device now supports Spotify Connect. At $49 this might solve some problems, for those wishing to have a cheap and simple way to add Spotify Connect to an existing stereo/speakers.

Still wish the API would be released so we could use Raspberry PI.

Users with a rooted Android-device can take the app "AirAudio" to stream Spotify to nearly any WiFi-receiver.

It supports (simultaneus) playback on multiple AirPlay-devices, DLNA, Chromecast, Roku & SONOS.

This includes the Raspberry PI with Shairport or XBMC and all other software-receivers as well.
