[Country] Spotify in India

I've been a Spotify Premium user from the Netherlands for 5 months now. In a month I will be going back home to India, which is where I'm from. Will Spotify ever be available in India? I'm not sure if this is the right platform for this question but it would be great to be able to access my account from there and I thought I should at least ask.

Thank you!

Hey folks,

We're very happy to announce that Spotify is now available in India: https://newsroom.spotify.com/2019-02-26/spotify-launches-in-india/

Happy listening!

Honestly I'm not waiting for Spotify to launch in India anymore, specially after Google Play Music's launch in India. Google Play Music in India is the best streaming service I've used here so far. Gaana, Saavn etc. are no match to it. Also as I've subscribed for the Play Music during their initial launch I got special price of ₹89/mo instead of ₹99/mo.

Here are a few reasons I love play music so much and I don't care about Spotify's Indian launch anymore:

  • Amazing app design. As Play Music is Google's first party app, the app design, user experience everything is just top-notch IMO
  • Play music has an amazing music collection. I've been using it for almost 1 month and I've seen that it has almost all the songs iTunes or Spotify has, in some case even more. Like for example in spotify there are no good collection of World music like for example albums by Bangladeshi Artists, but in Play music it does have that kind of collection too like iTunes. So I'm loving it.
  • The best thing I like about play music is that you can upload your own library (some songs which are not available in Play Music) to Google Play music, so no matter where you open your play music, those songs will always be there in each place, when you change your phone, no need to transfer the music. This is simply amazing and the number of songs you can upload to your own Play Music library is also humongous i.e. 50,000 (FIFTY THOUSAND). Can you imagine it? There is no other streaming service who provide this kind of service and honestly as I hear a lot of world music and old songs I always have around 100-200 songs which are not available in any streaming service. In fact when I was a Gaana paid user, I requested them this exact same feature as they had even less music collection.

Now let's come to a few things I don't like about Play Music (hopefully they will fix it soon):

  • Play Music's app doesn't have any black theme or night mode
  • For desktop there is no app available, though this is not a big this for me as I'm using Chrome v58 I've created a desktop icon for play music by going to More Tools > Add to Desktop and now everytime I double click on that icon it opens up play music in a new window and honestly if you don't know, you will feel like you are using an app.
  • The last one is that I think it would be great if there is a way to request for albums or in case there is any incomplete album we can report it to Google Play Music so that they try to add that album or fix that album.

Overall I love Google Play Music very much and even in future if Spotify comes to India, I'm not going to use it as I'm super happy with Google Play music.

P.S.: I completely forgot to say that Play Music also has playlists for each time like you used to get in Spotify....

Spotify is miles ahead of Play Music
To each his own I guess

This is so frustrating. I love how. Spotify looks and i love the playlists on it. It's getting annoying to be an outsider. Netflix launched in india. Apple music did too. We are paid subscribers to such apps, if that is what you're  worried about. Why not give us spotify yet? Im tired of waiting and hearing 'we are launching in new countries soon'

If only google music would have fixed its recommendations and given some better ways to manage preferences, I wouldn't have bothered caring about Spotify. It's been more than a year since they promised that they'll bring lyrics feature back and it's been never they even gave a thought to India as a market. Their product and engineer team seems to be a set of lazy **bleep** couch potatoes who don't give a **bleep** as to what user wants but only care about business. 50 million paying customers for this simple app and yet the artist complain they are not compensated well! Seriously? You guys are making over 2 billion dollars in revenue for an app which only require the cost of running servers.

Worst of all is this pointless forum, keep taking us to places with duplicate questions and no answers. My only hope is people realize how phoney this app is and stop paying. It's not worth it anymore!

I am from India but currently in Australia where Spotify is available. But iphone AppStore won't let me download Spotify even when I'm here. Anyway I get change that?

aadityakr7

Just change your country in your Apple profile and it will open Australian App Store.

or

Create another Apple ID, sign out from App Store & sign in with this new ID. Now when you will open App Store, it will show the available apps in Australia.

Note- When creating this new ID, set your country to Australia.

Now last thing, also set your country to Australia in Spotify profile otherwise it may stop working after 14 days.

I completely agree. Got used to Spotify in the UK and now that I'm back in India, being forced to use other providers which are simply not as good. I don't mind paying for the right product. Please bring Spotify to India.

Please bring Spotify to India. We have to use VPN on Android in order to use Spotify in India. Plus there are almost all new Hindi songs on Spotify then why don't you allow Spotify in India. India has very big market and people are also ready to pay for music streaming.

Yes pls bring the service in India asap...we are eagerly waiting..
