[Desktop] Bring back Lyrics

Allow me to re-edit again, in premise, that thanks to all of you this idea keeps receiving votes, and I am grateful to each of you, and when I expressed this desire as an idea I was a newbie, I owe to the professionality of Marco and Toku, whom I thank again, that I became aware that this idea it’s by no means new, nor even mine but Spotify’s, yet it is properly expressed, and it is shared by enough Community members for it to be still alive, and I agree with Arcanscape that, "We really need the lyrics feature", and I just notice an excellent temporary alternative of “SpotifyLyrics” kindly programmed and provided by Mirth (fr31): https://github.com/fr31/spotifylyrics/releases (via scoobyTdog), it works very well on my Pc 🙂 and I invite you all to try it.

Whilst singing might be fun, I have another approach to lyrics and sound, which is of course not mutually exclusive, and I read the words to see if I like them as I enjoy the melody, if I see myself in the lyrics, if I share the values expressed, and this is easier by having the words at hand.

So please Spotify bring back the Lyrics Feature most elegantly -- as you did with restyling the Community -- when you find a better Lyrics Provider.

Reading and listening might be even better than karaoke, although not as fun 😉

and every member could always do both, even just singing, as a very close person in my family does, and many other people do.

Thank you for evaluating, with my warmest and most sincere Regards.

Marco, a poet at heart

There's simply no reason why spotify continues to only provide live lyrics on select markets and refuses to provide further feedback.

Will be changing to Apple Music

Dear Spotify, please, bring back the lyrics feature in app on all platforms. I don't really want to use inconvenient third party apps to view the lyrics while listening to the music. Missing lyrics is the only feature that forces me to try other streaming services and compare their features with yours. I don't really want to move, but I feel like there's no clear evidence that you are going to bring this feature back in the near future. Just look at this thread's date  – in 2016😱 it was created. It looks like another 5 years can go by and this feature will still be off the plate.😥
If you could at least just give us a hint that you're working on it and that it will be available again soon. People want to know the reasons for the past and plans for the future. Any related valuable information will be highly appreciated.

New iphone coming tomorrow. Going to try Apple music I think. Been using Amazon music since I ditched Spotify. Most obvious by now that Spotify really doesn't care about this. If they did, we would have heard about any issues they were having. Really a shame.

Just got a new iPhone and with their generous 3months trial on Apple Music ! I have plenty of time to get accustomed to the completely different user interface. I sincerely think the Spotify user interface is the best, more intuitive and core functions such as repeat are much easily accessible than on Apple music. No, the main reason I just cancelled my 7 years old Spotify Premium is the lack of lyrics. On Apple Music I get almost all the lyrics for my songs including those in foreign languages with non roman alphabetical letters, which is beyond expectation. I used a popular app on iOS to “shift” my Spotify playlists to Apple music and voilà. Spotify is richer in music diversity compared to Apple but I really enjoy the lyrics, and it’s not just text, it’s interactive, touch the lyrics and the song goes back to where the exact words are sung, just great ! I guess money makes a difference, Apple can afford to absorb almost anything and become a market leader, just a matter of time.

personal thought: I used WinAmp back in the days, I wish WinAmp became the streaming music leader, just kick the lama’s ass 🙂

@pitneo I also had Spotify for 7+ years. I cancelled premium about a year ago and switched to another service because there are ideas on here with a ton of votes like lyrics, the dislike button, etc that have been requested for years and are being completely ignored. I got tired of paying for a service that clearly doesn't care much about the user experience. I also love the UI of Spotify better than most other apps but without some pretty basic features for me, there's no point in sticking with Spotify. Hopefully, enough people will leave that they'll actually start to care and bring back some of these features.

I switched from Spotify>Apple>Spotify years back.  WIth a duo subscription I am still on Spotify. However the slow introduction and lack of features and their support ignorance is nerving me.

Pro's of Spotify:
- Offers towards my music taste  less USA centric music than Amazon and specific Apple. But obvious they are USA companies, hence their focus to the USA audience. Also tiny countries are totally ignored by GAFAM.
- Google chromecast support (major reason for our devices at home, cheaper than Apple TV's etc)

- Better on Android than Apple Music

- Windows 10 client (I use it a lot on my laptop as stationary player for example)

- Webbrowser client, still handy and having that choice. I also run a linux based system OSMC (Raspberry Pi)

Con's:
- No Lyrics !!!

- Still No Hifi/CD quality Streaming !!

- No video-clip integration. Sometimes nice to have to option instead of going to Youtube or Youtube Music.

- On-going issues when you like store music in your Android phone external SD (for years now issues) !!

- Removing useful features suddenly without check with the user base. See all the flames on the forum on that !

Google Youtube Music isn't quite there yet. Because that would be my potential next switch. Amazon not very popular yet in our region.  Also the dominance of GAFAM start bringing negative side-effects as a whole. I still believe a music focussed player should bring the better experience, but for now Spotify is losing that role slowly.

I don't think Spotify is listening to anyone. Passing the buck from the social media helpdesk to the internal helpdesk does nothing when they don't listen or care.

I'm so annoyed with Spotify lately. No lyrics, no light mode - both seem to be the standard at other music streaming platforms! I really want to root for the $9 billion underdog, but they leave me no choice!

There’s always a choice. The question is will you make one? Hard some times.
