[Desktop][Social] Separate friends from artists

It's a little clunky when you're trying to see all the non-artists you follow. Currently, those people are mashed into the complete list of follows, which can be among hundreds or more of artists, and you have to know to go to your profile first to see them. It's also clunky that you can't see all friends on the friend feed or get to a full list of them, but that's a whole other suggestion, lol. Here's what I had in mind to decouple the non-artists on our profile page [image attached]. The concept here would be similar on mobile too.

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and voting to make this happen.

We're happy to announce that you can now filter your Following list by artists/friends in the desktop app and the web player.

Once again, thanks for helping us make Spotify better, by participating here on the Community.

Following accounts allows Spotify to notify you of any new releases, updates, or even concerts for your favorite artists but following is also used to see what friends are listening to, check their profile, and look at the playlists they have made.

Both of these are incredible functions, but it currently feels like users need to choose between using the follow feature in only one of these two approaches as attempting to do both leads to a cluttered following list where it is hard to distinguish friends from artists. These two methods of following also lead to an odd/disconnected feeling when looking at others' profiles as some users follow less than 10 accounts and others follow over 200.

If profiles could be internally marked as either 'listener' or 'artist' and the terminology/display of the following tab changed, users could more intuitively make use of both following functions: seeing what friends up to and getting updates on their favorite artists. The current following tab could be changed into two tabs: 1) 'Following' which now displays only 'listener' accounts (friends) and 2) "Artists' which now displays only 'artist' accounts. When checking a listener's profile this would change the display reading from the current "X Public playlists, X Followers, X Following" to "X Public playlists, X Followers, X Following, X Artists"

In privacy settings users could choose to make these lists public or private, but now both functions of following could be better utilized and users can check their friends' favorite/followed artists.

I follow a lot of artists and friends, sometime it get a bit messy to find a friend. Would it be possible to divide the two or have a way of sorting it? Cause everytime I find an artist I like or someone new I wanna see the growth I follow them but would also like to keep up with friends lists and so on.

This would be beneficial because I like to follow artists so I can add every (new) song from their group (and their members' solo songs) into a playlist.

Thank you so much for this update! However, it seems that it's only working for the web player and not the desktop app. Has the update not rolled out yet?

Hey @Lindybluem

This new feature will be in the desktop app in an update soon
