[Desktop] [Windows] Return Spotify to the system tray

Since version 1.0.1. (yesterday), the system tray icon is gone. And with it the functionality to close Spotify and remove it from the task bar while it still being active.

I feel this is a huge reduction in functionality and usability, and urge the return of the system tray icon. Minimizing the application should remove it from the task bar and put it in the system tray, so that it does not hog the limited space on the task bar.

Personally I rarely enter the Spotify main application, only to select a different playlist. It has no permanent place on my task bar.

Thanks.

Hey guys, the option to change this in your preferences is rolling out with the 1.0.7 Desktop version.

Just go to your Preferences and click Advanced Settings.

You'll then see the option to turn on the option Close button should minimize the Spotify window to the Tray

I don't except spotify will add that functionality so ... .. .

I updated my tool (Spotify Wrapper by WitchMaster Creations) so the normal minimize button can be used to minimize to tray and also with an option to start Spotify minimized to tray when you run Spotify Wrapper. You can get it at my website as usual. Please report any bugs to me, hope you like it, at least it works for me (until Spotify is changed to bring minimize to tray back, if ever that happens).

With my tool you can also create global hotkeys for common Spotify actions so make sure to check that out!

How is it that this feature has not been brought back yet?  The code obviously already exists to support it, shouldn't have to rewrite it so maybe some merging in where code changed.  Should not take this long to bring back the feature and add the options to support the scenarios for which it was removed. #baffled
