[Discover] Exclude selected Playlists from Taste Profile and Discover Suggestions

I play music off Spotify for my bubba to fall asleep to. This is typically classical/meditative relaxing style tracks. Since she sleeps 4 times a day this type of music is getting a LOT of playtime but is not representative of my music taste. I'm finding my Discover Weekly (which I LOVE by the way) is moving more away from my music and more towards the classical/chill out stuff I play for the little one.

Would be super cool to be able to mark a playlist to exclude it from the Discover algorithm.

Thanks!

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and voting to make this happen.

We're happy to announce that Exclude from Taste Profile feature is now available on all platforms. There's more info about the topic in our Newsroom Article.

If you'd like to give it a try right now, follow the steps below:

  1. Select the playlist of your choice.
  2. Tap the three dots near the top of the playlist.
  3. Select “Exclude from your Taste Profile.”

Once again, thanks for helping us make Spotify better, by participating here on the Community 🙂

I don't want my sleep playlists to influence the Discovery algorithms. I don't want music friends put on at a party to influence the algos. I don't want my work/concentration music to influence the algos. I DEFINITELY don't want kids music I put on to pacify or entertain a child to influence the algos.

Being able to tag playlists and songs with a 'category',  so they're attributed to a listening profile like 'working' or "This was a one time thing, the girl was very attractive and I never want to hear a New Kids on the Block song in my Discovery list" will benefit both listeners within the existing algos and benefit Spotify by providing more data on how listeners engage with their music.

Repeated song requests from kids can throw some curveballs into Discover Weekly and other suggestions (not to mention the yearly Wrapped stats). A flag to mark tracks these tracks would be great.

@cellerby 100% agree

i have been bombarding @spotifycares for years about this issue.  I did so again this week only to receive the same ridiculous answer of “listen in private mode”

I’ve told them yet again  “PRIVATE MODE DOES NOT WORK ON SMART SPEAKERS”

Ive had enough of this.  I’m off to Apple Music if they don’t reply this time that they are fixing it.

I was going to post an idea similar to that! I'd like to have MY wrapped, and not mine and my kid's wrapped (making mine intertwined with Olaf, Elsa and Anna's songs! Not that I don't like them or don't listen to them on my own sometimes (I love "Show Yourself" personally!), but I was thinking that maybe, we could choose to leave out a/several playlists for when Spotify creates our wrapped and Weekly discovery playlist, playlists we use to play musics for our kids, so that when comes the moment for Spotify to create things for us based on what we listen, they aren't thwarted by our kids' musical tastes!).

Hi Spotify

Not good enough. We need this feature here and now.

Hi Spotify,

I listen all the time, even when I’m sleeping, and sometimes I have to listen to total garbage with my girlfriends kids, like Meghan Trainor records. Have you heard that stuff? It’s unbearable.

Well, now I get “New from Meghan Trainor” emails and my sleep music was in my Wrapped. The thing is, I don’t want that to count in my recommendations.

Instead of great recommendations, I get a ton of things like “Günther Bjorkenson - Screeching Owl Sounds” or “Johan VanDöver - Ambient Sunsets for Bird Lovers” instead of music that matters to me, simply because it will play while I am sleeping.

It makes Spotify less useful for discovery that matters to me. I know the intentions are good, but I’d like to be able to flag some things, like:

{{Playlist Name}}

Do not count in my recommendations

Set time [11pm] - [8am]

Toby Keith “American Monster Trucks”

Do not include in recommendations

{{Playlist Name}}
Do not include in my recommendations

Thanks for not listening!

Lately, I've been listening to an album designed for sleep- Max Richter - Sleep.  It's 204 different tracks spanning 8.5 hours that I listen to nearly in full every night.  Additionally, I listen to the 'sleep with me' podcast, which

Unfortunately, these two are now HEAVILY influencing my playlists and recommendations.  While they're great, it warps I'm really listening to and not anything I want to show up in next years' wrapped, or daily recommendations.

It would be nice to have a way to exclude any artist, podcast, song, etc from being included in any discovery algorithms, unless I'm specifically searching for similar.

I have a song I use as an alarm, which keeps showing up on recommended playlists because I play it every day. But I really only want to listen to this song as the alarm. It would be nice to be able to ask Spotify to stop recommending this song to me.

There are also certain artists who I strongly dislike that keep showing up in my recommendations. It would be nice to be able to tell Spotify to never play this artist for me.

I like that Spotify recommends music, I would just like to have a little more input on what gets recommended.

After 10 years, I've left Spotify with my family plan for Apple Music because of this.  It is such an OBVIOUS problem and they don't care. I listen to sleep music at night and ALL of my discovery features are classical music because of it.

If they fixed this bug, I'd come back to Spotify.

Switching to private listening mode on Spotify mobile is a PITA. This would be very useful for a lot of us.
