Displaying album credits

I understand that including all album artwork is considered a premium feature, but at the same time, all people who participated in the making of an album should be credited for their work. Musicians, composers, producers, engineers and everybody involved - plus all the "special thanks" - people, deserve to be credited.

This could be implemented by simply displaying the album credits in text form, along with the original front album cover and tracklist. No lyrics, pictures or bonus features, just the credits. Not linking, but displaying the credits along with the album front cover + tracklist by default, in all versions of Spotify. The complete album artwork could still be a Spotify Premium-feature, with this approach.

This is not a feature for the listener - most people don't care much about songwriters or who plays bass on track five of this album, but from the perspective of the music creators, this is very important - their (ok, our) careers depend on these little things. Being associated with the music you've recorded (or written, engineered for et c) is still a very important part of building a career in this business.

Updated on 2018-02-05

Hey folks! We’re very excited to announce the launch of the first iteration of Spotify’s new songwriter credits feature.

Spotify users around the world can now view songwriter and producer credits for tracks on the desktop platform and on iOS.

On desktop, simply right-click on a track and select “Show Credits” from the menu of options to view information on performers, songwriters and producers.

I actually know very little about this, as it was just a new feature that
was implemented when I got music up on Spotify for the first time more than
2 years ago.

Thanks but, not implemented completely. You (spotify) miss tons of people in the credits. I suggest that you preload or dynamically query one of the many discography websites (wikipedia, discogs...) In order to supplement your meta data. This would also make it possible for users of your service to find music that has specific artists (even if they are not the leader or composer.)

Spotify users have been asking for adequate meta-data for years.  If I am listening to Miles Davis and I want to know who's playing sax on the track, the info should be available as with physical media.  Musicians deserve to have us know when they're playing, for fuller appreciation.

Come on Spotify, you MUST do better!!!

If Spotify can display the front of an album cover, can't they also show the back? If I had a physical album cover in my hands, I would turn it over to read the info on the back. I don't seem to be able to do this by clicking on anything. I'm trying to find the name of a pianist who played on two tracks on a film soundtrack album from 1994 and it is proving difficult. The credited information gives the same name for every track, piano, orchestral or otherwise.

Thanks for adding this update. It would also be great if the songwriters could be noted in the lyrics page where available.

All the personnel on all albums should be listed. Give credit where credit is do.

I really wish this would go further. a complete album information. not just as credits, but the full album data.
The no. one thing that make me want to get into vinyl, is that I miss the dive in experience that you get with an album cover.

I guess this does not hits a wide audience, and require quite a lot of work, but as a music platform, it really should be mandatory.
If it was up to me, I probably even would have design it as an album cover.
