Integration of Spotify and BMW Connected Drive

It would be great to be able to manage Spotify through BMW iDrive, either by a dedicated Spotify app on BMW system or at least by a connection of iDrive controls with Spotify app on the iPhone.

Updated: 2015-09-17
Since Spotify is now available for BMW Conected Drive on the iPhone, we'll mark this topic as 'Implemented'.

If you're on Android - please add your kudos to this idea here:
[Android] Integration of Spotify and BMW Connected Drive - Android

Thanks everyone!

Spotify is my favorit app to stream music but I have to agree wtíth the previus comments. It's a shame that Spotify is not optimized for BMW iDrive. I really don't want to change provider but at that time it's not really confortable to use spotify. Please change this fact!!!

Thanks

Great to see Spotify appearing in BMW connected drive today. I believe it may still be work in progress as it takes a while for it to be picked up, but great to see artwork and be able to browse playlists etc. Good work guys

If you haven't discovered it yet, Spotify now has Mini Connected integration. I'm guessing they probably do with BMW Drive as well. Well done Spotify. Now if you would let me search for music as well, that would be great. I look forward to future features being added. The radio function was well worth waiting for.

Hello,

I'm using now Spotify with BMW connected, happy to see this integration, a couple of issues so far:

- If I'm selecting a playlist or an album, how can I see on the screen the list of tracks

- I didn't find any search function, in the browse section, there is only a list of suggested playlists but no search button and if I'm selecting one of those suggested playlists I can not see the list of tracks, move from one track to another is only possible with the Skip Previous and Skip Next buttons, but no track list

Thank you

Hi, do you know if this integration will be implemented into the Android app also?

Anyway, very nice work! But, titles available for offline playing should get a marker or different color btw...

Thanx, Lars

Great to see Spotify has integrated with BMW; however, in my 535 when connected via USB cable spotify shows a logo of BMW and Spotify when connected with iDrive and if you turn off the screen it disconnects from iDrive.

In addition to iDrive, it can connect as simple USB connection and I'm able to turn off the screen and have spotify continue playing as I have in the past; however, if I want to browse spotify on the phone it is difficult because after 20 seconds or so the BMW connected logo covers the app and it needs to be closed and re-opened to continue using the application on the phone.

I appreciate that one shouldn't be using the phone while driving, but let that be my choice, please don't not force me to use iDrive.

Please remove the silly BMW/Spotify logo that covers the entire screen while connected, or at least give me the option to disable it.

Thank you,

hawrakabani

J3R0MY you can download an app that can make u disable the car menu in spotify

i dont remember the name, but i had it once

Hi All, I posted a number of weeks ago about the problem of having to have the app front and centre on the iphone in order to hear music. Since that time I have found that I can do the follwing;

- plug into USB as normal, I dont have a cradle in 2012 M3.

- wait for the spotify app connects on the iphone

- then click the home key and music stops normally

- then straight away go back into spotify on the iphone

- this seams to allow me to have it work as before also and still use waze etc

Hope it helps, happy Thanksgiving

I totally agree with J3R0MY - this stupid BMW apps integration made Spotify unusable in the car, because you cannot listen to the music if you close or switch the app!

I'm a good boy, I do not text & drive but I use the phone as a navigator, and now it means that I have to choose between music or navigation.

Please make the integration optional!

BTW, hawrakabani, what is the name of the app? 🙂

Two feature requests (i think 😞

- make it optional, i use also waze in my car and now i have to choose between them.

- also, please integrate the search function into idrive. I mean ... you say it is for safety ...

But without it, it was like this while driving:

1. i want to search the song. 2. i search the song on the phone and play it (the dangerous part). 3. i am focused on the road

Now:

1. i want to search the song. 2. while driving, i have to disconnect the cable, search the song, play the song, connect the cable. 3. now i am focuset back on the road .... much more dangerous.

Or do it like waze. It asks if you are the passenger. He can also operate idrive and i dont see why he could not search for the song himself.
