[Mobile] [Other] Smart Shuffle toggle setting in settings menu

Smart shuffle is a fun way to discover new songs, but it comes at a cost. Want to reshuffle your queue? Bam, wait a few seconds longer. Want to unshuffle your playlist? Bam, no longer works, and goes to a completely random place in the playlist.

To me this is an unwanted complication, and I'd much rather be able to choose in the settings menu whether I want to enable the Smart Shuffle feature, or disable it.

Very much agreed, smart shuffle is so annoying

Absolutely agree with the majority of people here that the smart shuffle is one of most annoying things that Spotify has released in a long time, its just a bad UX-feature from the get-go. It was launched from out of nowhere, at least to my experience, with minimal customer onboarding and from there on its has been really hard to control whether you want to use it or not.

There are a few things that I feel need to be changed with this, these are:

  1. The most important one. Have a on or off toggle for it under settings, letting the customer to choose if they want to use it or not.
  2. The click feedback both in the mobile and desktop app is really bad, especially in the mobile app where the toast message doesn't even keep up when you are switching from smart to regular shuffle or vice versa.
  3. Clearer distinction between the icons. The difference between the regular and smart shuffle icons are so minimal and non-noticeable that I have a really hard time telling them apart, especially in the beginning when this was launched.

Smart shuffle has a gun to my back, has forced me to the edge of my patience and is telling me to jump.

This feature is so buggy and nonsensical. It used to be a few extra clicks but I could at least disable it when listening by switching to standard shuffle. OK fine, more clicks but I can live with that. That is until recently when smart shuffle seems to have decided that I am a) not paying enough attention to it and b) have no idea what my own music taste is.

Now if I dare to pause my music for any amount of time it assumes that I have—in the last 30 seconds—fallen, hit my head and decided I would like to enable smart shuffle again despite having already turned it off and being half way through an already shuffled playlist.

And now it's making it harder to disable it. Especially when it surprises me with re-enabling it. Because the "now listening" shuffle button no longer turns it off if I am already accidentally listening to one of it's surprise "smart" songs. So, I need to find my way back to the playlist page—again—and press the smart shuffle button there to remove the cursed music from my queue/playlist.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, let me CAST OUT smart shuffle from my life. Let me throw that damn thing into mount doom before I throw myself into the hellfire. ALL I ASK IS FOR A TOGGLE IN THE SETTINGS.

The gym I go to has Spotify Premium. I have my own playlist when I'm there by myself. Switched to my list, it played 1 song & then switched to Smart Shuffle. I went back to the Andriod device & turned it off & went back to my music. It played my song & then switched to Smart Shuffle. I cycled through the options but when the song ended it goes to Smart Shuffle. Smart Shuffle on, off & random play makes no difference.

I closed the app & restarted it going to my playlist. 1 song played & then back to Smart Shuffle. I took Smart Shuffle of when I restarted. All of the following songs are taken from Smart Shuffle.

I switched to Classic Rock. 1 song played & then back to hip-hop. I like hip-hop but not in my Classic Rock mix.

I switched to Deezer months ago & haven't looked back. I'm even paying for it now. The people that own the gym are friends of mine.  I'm going to ask them to cancel Spotify & move to Deezer.

If all of your users move elsewhere using tunemymusic.com will that make you change your position?

Remove smart shuffle forever

rexxpaul

I appreciate the Smart Shuffle feature, but I would like the option to permanently disable it. This would prevent me from accidentally activating Smart Shuffle while listening to music.

My suggestion is to include a toggle option in the settings that allows users to disable Smart Shuffle entirely. This way, pressing the shuffle button will only activate regular shuffle, without the risk of enabling Smart Shuffle by mistake.

Thank you for considering this feature and please reach out to me if you need further clarity on this one!

Just let me turn off this **bleep** feature. I didn't ask for it. I don't want it. But it keeps turning itself on every few weeks. I makes me hate the client and makes me feel very much disrespected as a customer. As if me using the service I pay you guys for isn't good enough for you. You also want to tell me what to listen to.

Smart shuffle is garbage.

Smart shuffle sucks. Putting it in the middle of the tap to turn shuffle on/off is an unnecessary form of torture inflicted on users to please some PM over there. Can you please add a global flag to account settings to disable this smart shuffle thing entirely? It's a clunky annoying feature no one asked for.

You should have never introduced the feature in the first place. Even if you did, there should have been an option to opt out, not shove the feature down everyone’s throats. Doing so would guarantee **bleep**-off subscribers.
