[Mobile] [Other] Smart Shuffle toggle setting in settings menu

Smart shuffle is a fun way to discover new songs, but it comes at a cost. Want to reshuffle your queue? Bam, wait a few seconds longer. Want to unshuffle your playlist? Bam, no longer works, and goes to a completely random place in the playlist.

To me this is an unwanted complication, and I'd much rather be able to choose in the settings menu whether I want to enable the Smart Shuffle feature, or disable it.

Cheers & many thanks for your input 🙂 Stay tuned for new updates 🙌🏼

Yes please add this option at the very least. The feature should be thrown into the depths of **bleep**, but the choice to turn it off is a good start.

My Question or Issue

I’m an international student and rely 100% on WiFi for my cell phone. Even while in the US (with cell service), I never liked smart shuffle and hated the lag when switching modes. Without WiFi/cell service though, it is not possible to switch modes due to smart shuffle. It needs service to process the switch, and there’s no way for me to bypass it. So if I leave the house on one mode and want to listen to music, I have to wait until I’m reconnected to WiFi so Spotify can process smart shuffle, all for me to skip right past it. PLEASE add a feature to disable. I know a ton of users hate the lag/recommendations/location of smart shuffle in the first place, but I’m trying to get Spotify to understand how this impacts people

who live abroad/don’t have cell service. It has completely ruined Spotify for me, which was a major part of my commute.

Months later and still nothing from Spotify. I cancelled my subscription today because of this issue and how frustrating it makes using Spotify offline.

It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to keep hitting it over and over to turn off. It's very frustrating in the car because of you stop smart shuffle it will only play the first song, then you have to pull over our get a passenger to start the playlist again.

I've been an active Spotify user for years dealing with multiple iterations of useless updates which have bogged down the software, making the UX clunkier and inconsistent between multiple versions of the app (for example the lack of smart shuffle on desktop but the inclusion of the ridiculous now playing bar). Your paying customers have asked for the removal of smart shuffle that's tied to the shuffle button on mobile and that's the bare minimum that should be implemented to return the mobile app back to its former functionality.

My conspiracy theory is that smart shuffle has been introduced so Spotify has more control over the music that premium users listen to. That way, they can work with labels and artists to promote their content across millions of playlists, without relying on organic growth.

At the extortionate rate Spotify charges, turning the consumer into the product so blatantly is leaving a demonstrably bad taste in your users mouths. Remove smart shuffle completely or give users an option to permanently disable a feature that is useless and boggs down an already buggy app!

This smart shuffle is beyond stupid and I want it gone or potentially leaving spotify. I love to shuffle my library but since it would start selecting the smart shuffle afterwords I have nothing but issues now. When smart shuffle gets turned off it will literally take me to the same spot in my library no matter how deep into it am. I will disable it and the next song is right in the middle of the an album. It's so frustrating the logging out and logging in helps that issue but is only temporary. Closing the app and reopening it cause smart shuffle to be back. Please let us disable it

it’s not a matter of OS, smart shuffle always takes a few seconds to generate its recommendations…. and i think a lot of people just want the shuffle button to toggle between shuffle and nonshuffle. myself included. would appreciate an option to disable smart shuffle completely

As I stated in the Introducing Smart Shuffle! thread, I (including [mostly] everyone else here and in the other thread) very much dislike this change, or rather, the implementation. Please add an option to disable this feature so we don't have to consider alternatives. It can really ruin someone's listening experience.
