[Music] Local FLAC Playback

A member of spotify team said to separate the FLAC idea post, into FLAC local playback and FLAC streaming. Someone else can create a FLAC streaming post, as I'm only after local playback. The original post with the 2 ideas in one post is here.

WHY WE NEED SPOTIFY TO PLAY OUR FLAC COLLECTION
Spotify already plays ALAC, all be it with stability problems, but what we really need is local FLAC playback because FLAC is the defacto standard for lossless audio encoding. 7digital has recently started selling FLAC yet spotify can't play them. Why not???

The most commercially successful band on the planet (The Beatles), have released official remastered versions of all albums in 24bitFLAC format on a usb device.

Numerous bands have sold albums in FLAC format through their websites. FLAC is the defacto standard for lossless encoding, so please start supporting local playback of FLAC.

Another idea that is important to me is fixing the appalling "set the same volume level for all tracks", which doesn't take into account the subtle volume transients of an album that audio engineers spend hours working on. The following volume normalization method retains the intended volume differences as part of the album.

Local FLAC playback would be great, it's a bit annoying to change applications often and FLAC is easily the most versatile and convenient lossless music format. I hope we'll see this at some point in the future, Spotify needs some cool features like this that separate it from its competitors.

Bottom line is that it probably doesn't fit in the businessmodel and you don't care about the little investmement you would have to make

Are you a music service provider who wants to make money or commercial wankers, that's the question

I cannot give enough kudos for this. It is plainly stupid for internet services to keep handling the music that we PAY for in a format that reduces quality. It is offensive to the artists and sound technicians that spend hours working on the sound, in order for it to get as beautiful as possible.

Also, thanks to this non-sense, us, audiophiles, need to keep buying CDs in order to get the quality that we are used to. We cannot listen to music online, just like everybody else (don't get me wrong, i personally love buying CDs and I would hate if this format disappeared. I simply hate the fact that I cannot listen to music online with the same quality).

There is no advantage with the use of the .mp3 format in the xxi century, with the current average bandwidths and with the storage devices that we have nowadays, with TERABYTES of space.

Please implement the format FLAC ASAP!

Still waiting, Spotify devs...  This is starting to get frustrating.  I'm sick of encoding mp3s just for Spotify.  Just let me play the FLAC versions, please.

Please implement this, It would be ever so helpful. Local flac playback shouldn't even be that difficult to implement.

I just recently re-did my entire music library in FLAC and was looking forward to using Spotify's local file playback when I found out FLAC is not yet supported!! Please implement it as soon as possible! It's going to be a pain in the butt to duplicate and maintain all of my tracks in mp3!

Hi,

I really think local FLAC file playback is vital! Streaming not so much. The best quality music is without doubt in FLAC form, would only make sense to habe one app (hopefully spotify) were you can play and organise your MP3 and FLAC together. I am constantly switching between spotify and VLC player.

Please implement local FLAC file playback Spotify, I will be a loyal custome forever! 🙂
