Shuffle should not repeat a song until X% of the the rest of the playlist has been played

My starred playlist is 250+ tracks, yet when I shuffle play I hear some song all of the time and others never. Spotify should keep track of the play history across sessions. Once a song has been played, it won'tbe put back into the sample pool until half (or some other percentage) of the other songs are played.

Example: Playlist X has 100 songs. When on shuffle, as soon as song Y is played it is put "on hold" and won't be considered for play until at least 50 other songs have been played.

I get sick of hearing the same songs over and over and this is easily a fixable problem. I would also hope that this is a duplicate suggestion, but I didn't see anything.

Hey everyone! Recently we updated this idea: "Implement an actual shuffle function"

With this new algorithm you should see songs played in shuffle move to the bottom of the play queue between sessions. We'd like to collect feedback on this algorithm so if you have any comments please post them here. Thanks for your feedback everyone!

Nothing has changed with the software update. Still repeats most of my shuffle though i have a lot of songs. Can I randomize on an android as I don't have a pc and listen mostly offline...

A sample from my current "shuffled" playlist showing not only a repeat, but the same song twice in a row. At least give us a way to remove the song from the play queue. Verifed that the song only exists once in my playlist.

Hi,

I'm just passing by to give my opinion

One year ago i did some research on the shuffle mode on spotify forum, because i didn't understand how it could be so sh***y for a software like spotify, i found https://community.spotify.com/t5/Implemented-Ideas/Implement-an-actual-shuffle-function/idi-p/27607 , commented on this thread for a while and gave up the shuffle mode

i used it again yesterday and today on an old playlist (412 songs) and in one afternoon, 4 songs came twice...

Honestly its pissing me off ! I juste can't understand how this is possible.

I'm not a developper, but i sometimes make some apps (slowly cause i'm not good), and i'm sure i could make a shuffle mode that make more sense than this one ! Come on Spotify please, more than one year, it's ridiculous !

I have to agree with the need to FIX THIS!  I have 500+ songs on my playlist and I can hear the same song within 15-20 minutes and repeatedly through the period of listening.  Does someone not know how to set up a proper random number generators?  I like the access to such a large library of songs ... which is why I DON"T WANT TO HEAR THE SAME FREAKING SONG OVER AND OVER!  It makes me want to look for an alternative to Spotify.

I have a very large play list and I like to use shuffle when I play my music, but there is no way that it shuffles my whole play list during play. It seems that it shuffles a section of the playlist, because often when I add songs to my playlist, I will pick an artist and choose a number of songs from that artist, then continue to load music this way with various artists. When I play back using shuffle I tend to hear the same 10 artists during that play time. It is frustrating because I want to here a large variety of music during play time.

I agree, with above comments that you should be able to either choose a percentage of your list or use default of 100%. Please do something to correct this.

I see alot of these comments are a couple of years old and it seems nothing has been done to date.

I agree with this completely.  It seems that the shuffle feature just picks random songs with little regard for how many times the user has listened to each song.  There is logic to help avoid adding duplicate songs but when it comes to playback of a playlist it's just random shuffle.  Since Spotify does keep tabs on how many times a particular song is played why not do this on a user level.  When we hit shuffle on our play list it looks at the least played songs in the play list and shuffles those to the front of the cue.  It would also be nice if it would randomize the artist in the cue.  Don't play the same artist within 60 minutes or something like that.
I use Spotify for running quite a bit and I can't tell you how many times I am hearing the same songs over and over on playlists with hundreds of songs.

Problem is still here !!! on my lumia 950 it's a disaster...

I always hear the same song ...

this problems is still a thing. Same songs everytime i use the shuffle on a 250+ playlist. If u cant code it right, use the oldschool winamp's shufflecode. Please just fix the good darn shuffle....

I've got the same problem. i'm using a spotify playlist of 250+ songs in my shop and after 40-50 songs, it repeat the same songs.

Is Spotify listening to their community or is this webpage simply to try to placate us?  Why don't they respond and tell us what, if anything, they are doing to resolve this problem (or how to workaround it)?
