Spotify Xbox One app

I'm aware that a large majority of Spotify users won't be gamers but with Microsoft's latest console, the Xbox One, do you think it'd be possible to get a Spotify app? Now that it's possible to multi-task and stream while you game the opportunity to gain new monthly subscribers is massive.

It's already possible as seen with Microsofts new service "Xbox Music" which features heavily in the new console. I know I'd definitely use the app if there was one. Anyone else?

Setting the optical output to stereo is only half the task. You also have to turn on Prologic on the optical input. Until you do that, you're right - you'll get left and right speakers, with no center, surrounds, or sub.

You mean turn Pro Logic on the Samsung Home Theater?

Fdub
Oh you again...y do you even reply..you're always hateful so why do you
care?
Fdub
I'm glad you got a nice reply. I got called names and got told this place

Thank you Fdub for the kind words. Well, I'll take all answers even though they are not always immediately helpful. I contacted Samsung and their answer was useless. I also contacted Pioneer, to know what they have to say about the compatibility of their AV Receiver and the Optical output of the XBox One but, as of today, I have not received anything from them, not even some kind of confirmation that they are looking into my inquiry...

So, for the time being, I think I'll satisfy myself with "stereo", the way it was intended to play but I'm still looking to buy an AV Receiver if only to have the technical means of monitoring the signal produced by my XBox. Whether the 5.1 surround sound is "fake" or not does not matter to these ears, what matters is the impression I have that the sound is "filling" my living room.

Yes, I enjoy surround sound in games and movies. Is stereo still the mode in which all current music is still recorded today, by studios and recording companies? Curious.

cm508d

Needless to say, I'm surprised that no one from Spotify staff is monitoring these discussions?

Got an answer from Pioneer re: VSX-531:

> Hello Roger,

>

> Thank you for contacting Pioneer product support about your optical output with the Xbox one. Yes you can > use the optical from the Xbox one to the back of this receiver to get your surround sound.

> Thank you

That's encouraging news. I will ask about the stereo "upconversion" and the Dolby ProLogic business...

Found this excellent link, from Dolby, regarding the XBox One.

If you're going to go buy a new receiver, I would recommend checking out accessories4less.com.  I've bought a cuple of units from them over the years.  They sell refurbished items for really good prices.  And so far, I've had really good luck with them lasting.

I personally prefer Onkyo (because they tend to have the most comprehensive input selection), but they also sell Pioneer.

Here's more... I'm slowly giving up on my XBO <> Samsung HT "relation" and leaning toward purchasing an AV Receiver, like Pioneer VSX-531. After further probing Pioneer support, their answer came back as :

> For you use of listening to music you will need to set your receiver to EXT stereo.

A quick search on "EXT stereo" turned up additional, interesting information from users, not necessarily XBox users, but, still, useful information, to better understand my humble "situation":

This guy, here, https://forums.audioholics.com/forums/threads/ext-stereo-vs-auto-surround.68363/, wrote :

I have a Pioneer VSX-520-K with 3x Polk Audio Monitor 40s for the front and 2x Polk Audio Monitor 30s for the rear. I was reading the user manual on my Pioneer receiver and it suggests putting my system in AUTO SURROUND which automatically detects what kind of source your playing and selects multichannel or stereo playback but I find that I get the most enjoyable listening when my system is set to EXT STEREO which gives multichannel sound to a stereo source.

And this guy replied:

Thats probably multichannel stereo, my personal taste is to use dolby pro logic II when listening to music, stereo is so flat and boring, unlinke multi-channel stereo, it actually derives 5 channels from music that are entirely unique and it is capable of well mimicing a large live perfomance and giving a new perception of spatiality that i simply find incredible sounding. not to mention if you use a center channel, it removes the oh so annoying stereo sweet spot by giving a real center channel rather then an "illusion" of one.

See? I think whichever "component" is doing or doing its job in the chain between Spotify > XBox > Samsung Home Theater, I agree with the idea that surround sound or "Multichannel stero" or however else you want to call this is PROBABLY what I am after, out of my XBox One 🙂
