[WP8] Bring Spotify Free to Windows Phone

Hello everyone,

 

As of yesterday, Windows Phone owners can enjoy access to millions of songs across their smartphones for free. Listen to all your playlists, discover new music, or simply sit back and dig into your favourite artist’s entire back catalogue.

 

We’re also introducing a series of additional improvements throughout the app. Search results look better than ever before, and we’ve made it easier to browse the artists you love and discover related artists you might grow to love.

 

Spotify is available to Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 users right now, and can be downloaded in the Windows Phone Store.  Also, you can find more information on our blog.

Yes, despite paying the same as everyone else, Windows Phone subscribers continue to be treated as third-class citizens. In fact, it's worse than that because it's hard to even find Spotify acknowledging that the platform exists, let alone that there's need to support it. How can Spotify aim at being the ubiquitous music streaming service when they disenfranchise a significant proportion of the user base. It's enough to drive you into the arms of a competitor.

I am kind of upset now. I woke up to this email and I was really happy I would get to use Spotify for free on my Windows Phone. Then I do my usual WPCentral routine check to find out that you have LEFT US OUT. Seriously now? That email is almost, if not total false advertising, you only managed to make me upset and countless others in the process.. So I'm not here to ask you, I'm here to DEMAND that you treat us the same way with other customers. It's bad enough you don't update your app on a frequent basis, treating us like that is the icing on the cake. Might as well go for Xbox Music.
