Think of this from the business perspective, API calls cost money, free users do not pay a cent. Why would spotify be incentivised to make any feature free? Shouldn't you be grateful you get to listen to music in the first place? 

'I can just google it'. Then just Google it. 

I'll agree that spotify has made some questionable decisions, but this isn't one of them. This is plain and simple business.

not only is it a stupid idea to make money, but say if, you wanna go to a certain lyric. you can't because they removed the option to see the lyrics.

i already have more than enough reason to switch to soundcloud with how there is way less ads and actual mobile support, but now this? your competition is lucky with how much you shoot yourself in the foot.

you can't even justify this, a lot of songs have no lyrics available/incorrect lyrics, why should we need to pay when there is a big con already?

For the person who spoke about this being purely a business decision. your argument makes no sense. you say that free users do not pay a single cent but you forget theres ads every 30 minutes which means even without any actual payment spotify is still monetising off of the free users as well. if a service like lyric viewing is available for free on the internet (AND THEY’VE INCREASED PREMIUM PRICES AND ARE MONETISING OFF OF FREE USERS) there’s no reason for them to have LYRICS behind a paywall. I get that everything has a maintenance cost but theres no way they’re not making enough to maintain it. this is purely corporate greed.
