[All Platforms][Connect] re-categorise podcasts as AUDIO so they play on Connect devices

Podcasts will not play on audio-only Connect devices because Spotify has labelled them as "mixed-media". They are not mixed media, they are audio files.

This is an issue that has been noted by the community for some time (around 18 months at least) and not addressed by Spotify in any serious way. It is not a niche problem as it will affect ALL users who listen to podcasts and own an audio-only Spotify Connect device. In other words, potentially millions of people globally. Please Spotify, rectify this issue as a matter of urgency. I for one am a regular podcast listener who bought an audio-only Connect device so that I could play podcasts through it, only to find that I cannot because of a categorisation error on your part.

To further elucidate the issue, and Spotify's lack of action on it, I point to an earlier (now closed) idea post submitted by another user (charango88) https://community.spotify.com/t5/Closed-Ideas/All-Platforms-Connect-Make-Podcasts-playable-on-audio-...

The advice given to this Spotify user was that this is "an issue that's worth investigating" and for them to find relevant help topics. However no relevant help topics exist for this problem.

This seems to fixed for some podcasts but not all ie. Some of the BBC podcasts don't work .

Which podcasts are you referring to? I'd like to confirm this.

so for example this one works

https://open.spotify.com/episode/5l1dHTjlTzS8P8bkS3fXIP?si=W-FcxYu6SnikAuEne6x1qQ&utm_source=copy-li...

But this one doesn't...

I'm using my android app. The first one works with Spotify connect and Chromecast Audio . The second one doesn't work with Spotify connect but does work with Chromecast.

wth... I've been getting fed up with spotify for these kind of mind boggling bugs they won't address for a long time... the only reason I'm still using it is because I basically have no choice if I want to keep using my samsung multiroom speaker...

But evereytime I encounter another of these stupid basic bugs that spotify just refuses to address for years, I'm inching closer and closer to ditching Spotify and actually buying a different speaker to be able to use a decent streaming service....

Using Samsung MultiRoom app. Years and no podcast ability for paying customers. Fix it and let’s move on. If it’s a legal thing then post the explanation if not get the gurus and put out an update. Absolutely ridiculous. We should all get a discount for not being able to play podcasts on grouped speakers. I also use Alexa devices and those play but my more expensive grouped speakers and can’t. Explain why Spotify. Thanks for letting me rant.

Spotify has closed this topic as there were not enough votes to support a
fix. They seem to see this as an enhancement rather than a bug ! No idea
how to get it back on their agenda as posting in community seems the only
communication option.
